I may or may not jump in on this one. Building the base would take time I don't have. Hate to have it sit around idle.
Anybody ever build a base or know who could, for reasonable money?

i used to have one. i never built it up because you do have to first rebuild the power supply.
he says the strobe is out, but it keeps constant speed. ask him how he came to that conclusion? did he use a strobe disc and a light bulb?
also, if the strobe is out, i doubt it keeps constant speed. the LEDs usually never fail. the strobe circuit isn't getting enough power to light the strobe. if this is the case, there usually isn't enough juice to phase lock the speed.
I'm sure i didn't explain this right. do some research, a dead strobe is usually indicative of other problems.
totally fixable if you don't mind going through it. the schematic and service manual is on http://vinylengine.com/
see ya,

I getcha. Thanks. I imagine it'll start skyrocketing last 1/2 hr. I'd BIN it now fer sure, with or without currently working strobe.

no problem chief. too bad i didn't know you wanted one a few months ago. i sold mine for $325. okay cosmetic condition. light scuffs on the deck and power supply, but it did work. sans strobe.
now here's the ultimate direct drive site. german - but he's pretty decent at writing in english:
