Trying to find one that has a response time of 6ms or better. I don't watch a lot of tv. I watch movies and PBS. Sony? Sharp? I don't want a set to dominate the room. I have not bought a tv in 8 years maybe. Right now i have a 27" Sony Bravia tube tv.

Cheers.

I want a 42" to 50" flat screen for my bedroom wall. I guess we have different ideas. Most people want the biggest set they can fit in the room. I have a 60" Sony LCD HDTV in my living room. Football and movies were never more fun to watch on a bigger set. You can simply do searches of reviews for new sets to find one you like that meets your specs. Then go to a few stores and look at the model side by side with other sets. Bring a pen and paper and write down the model numbers you like the best. Then grin and buy it using www.streetprices.com, or bottomdollar.com if they are still around to give you a list of vendors and prices. I saved $2K on my brand new 60" Sony that way. I used my American Express and the 1 year warranty was automatically doubled at no extra cost using my gold Amex. The same set at Sears, BB, and CC was $3,599 to $3,699. I paid $1,792 for mine new and the freight was only $150 to my door. The place I got mine from also has a brick and mortar store front in NJ. Good luck! John

A year ago, I went from a 36" Sony Wega XBR flat tube to a 42" Sharp Aquos (piano black with the speakers on the sides.) They're only LCD sets that you can actually replace the lamps in when they start to go dim down the road rather than tossing the set out. As far as response time, anything under 12ms won't cause the image to "speed smear".

I have a small Asus PC connected via DVI directly into the Aquos to watch Japanese fansubbed anime, so it gets more of a workout as a giant HD monitor. Excellent crisp picture with DVD via component cables and the over-the-air wide-screen HD broadcast picture from PBS station WTTW channel 11 here in Chicago is also crystal clear and absolutely stunning via a standard UHF antenna.

I went with the Sharp Aquos LC-32D62C for a few reasons.

-Full HD-1080P-Only 32 inch set to have this. (Didn't want a set to overwhelm the room, plus the bigger the set the more back you should sit.)

-10,000 to 1 dynamic range.

-6ms response time

Right now I am ahead of the curve, HDTV cable at best send signals a 1080I, most channel are 480I, not even P.

Sony has the ability to make crappier signal look "better" by filters and such, but I want Full HD and the fasted response time possible.

Hopefully more and more Cable stations will go real HD soon.

You are in New York City proper, so you have a long wait for really great pictures that are available on Verizon FIOS system. The Cable systems are scared of FIOS so they are usig all their political clout to slow FIOS entry.

I just had my Emerson, made by Funai, setup this afternoon and I'm very impressed with it.. Walmart had them at $498 when I got mine but, jacked them up $40 last week..

The picture quality is excellent even with OTA, all I have right now..

For the price you can't go wrong..
