:grnbounce Hey All:beer:
I've discovered over the past few weeks that my new :uzi: DVD player, which is s'posed to playCD-R/RW and MP3's (according to the mfr. and salesperson) will NOT play ANY of those things accurately.:butt1:
I've tried several different brands of software and discs with the same results, skip, skip, skip.
SO, back to the store it goes.
I need some recommendations for a DVD/CD player (preferrably multi disc, but not mandatory) which will actually BE multi-function. I realize it's a lot to ask of one machine, but I have faith that there's at least One out there.:dunno:
Thanks in advance for all advice/help (Pretty obvious that I need it, donchya think?)
:D Happy Listening (for me too, I hope)

Seems strange that the player would be skipping. If the machine was unable to play the format you want the disc would never load. I'm betting theres something amiss with your particular unit. Can't you bring some CD'R's and RW's with you to the place you bought it? I never trust the salesperson, I always bring any media I intend to play with me. Just my .02.

Often times DVD players have limits as to what sort of MP3s they will play. Many won't play VBR encodes, only CBR. Some have a minimum bitrate they will play, some a maximum bitrate. The safest MP3 encode seems to be 128kCBR.
Other than that, almost all Apex machines will play MP3s and many 'big' brands now advertise they play them, like Pioneer.

:grnbounce Hey All:beer:
Thanks for the input.:zoom:
After visits to several stores and an e-mail to the manufacturer, I believe that I have a defective unit and will be exchanging it as soon as I can.:lazer:
Meanwhile I'll have to stick to commercially recorded media. This'll give me a chance to convince my wife that we should go ahead and move up to a progressive scan since she's (yep, she) been talking about a bigger screen HDTV for a joint Christmas present.:smlove: Gotta love a mate like that!
Thanks again, all.

George don't bother with the progressive scan DVD player. Just go out and buy a line doubler and you can keep the player you're currently using. Besides more gear equals more FUN.

With modern electronics it is not necessary to have an additional doubler in your system.
The latest 3:2 pull down progressive circuitry adds little to the cost of DVD players now. Faroudja technology is found in lots of video gear now including $200 Panasonic DVD players/changers.
I just purchased a panny CP72 and it plays everything from WAM files, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3s, DVD-Audio (wow, sounds great!) as well as standard CDs and DVD video. With an excellent picture to boot!

:grnbounce Hey Dale:beer:
As it turned out, I had a defective unit. After replacing it, I discovered that using MusicMatch to burn MP3 CDs produced good results. Investing a few $$ for NERO 5.5, well, I never looked back.:bigok:
Thanks to all who replied.:beerchug:
