I had this funny feeling that my wallet wasn't happy hanging around with me. When I took my VISA card out, the next thing you know I was talking to Brian about purchasing a MG SI 15 DT (KT88 single-ended tube amp).
After my wallet let me free, I found out the last amp had gone out the door just a day or so ago. But my VISA told me we would wait for the next one to arrive and be shipped to my door. I think my VISA card needs a shorter leash!!!
Anyways, I am like a kid waiting waiting for Christmas, I will be able to compare the Norh SE-9 to another single-ended amp.
Brian, it's a pleasure talking to you. I am still coming to visit after the holidays and hope to bring some friends(you have already met some of them I'm sure) and we will party and listen to great tunes.
Alas, for now, I can only wait until my toy is delivered. Thanks for all your help Brian, you are a easy person to talk to, knowledgeable, and easy to get along with.
Regards, Ron

I could not possibly tell your wallet how to behave, mine has not been right for last 30 years. When my current girlfriend of last 5 years first started dating me. She saw my house stacked with audio gear, speakers and cabinets, many fixer uppers. She asked me if I had to decide between her and my toys, I stopped her before she could finsih the question, "Don't ask, I have been playing around this stuff since I've been a kid!!!" (some accuse me of still being in childhood, to them I say: Are you jealous???
Seriously, I can't weit for for my amp to arrive, just like trying to rush "Santa Claus" before Dec 25th!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have fun, Ron

Yes, believe it or not she still is. She still tries to make sure my audio gear doesn't get more time than she does though!!!

Brian,
The amp is here, I spent 8 hours yesterday starting on the burn-in I know is necessary. It is difficult to start a new amp and listen to the process of burn-in when you have a amp already in veteran status, but I know the reward will be worth it. Those big KT-88's are sure interesting to look at after my little EL34 amp. The amp is very nice looking, sounds good for needing burn-in yet. I can't wait for that time when I can see what it will really do. I am using the system in my avatar(JBL 2226J/ALtec 902/Edgarhorn/Pi 1.6Khz crossover).
Thanks for all you help Brian, It was worth the wait to get my new toy!!!! I will post review after proper burn-in since it is the only way to really evaluate new tube gear!

cool Ron...glad ta hear ya got it!
have fun!
Give them tubes a 100 hours and then have fun. I'm not sure if you're documenting the burnin but I'd be curious how you felt the amp progressed from day one to the point you thought it stabilized. For my amp, it took a while.

Hi MikE,
Yes I keep a mental note of how many hours of burn-in as time goes on. I did the same when my Dynaco ST-70 got re-tubed, and my Norh SE-9, for the EL34's to really sound good takes around 120 hours. I could use tubes already burned in, but I believe the amp must burn-in also. I did try the triode strapped mode on day 2 for 4 hours, day 1 was pentode mode for 8 hours, I have decided to change each day I play it. Triode mode has a more meaty sound to it, but not like I know it will be after 100+ hours on it. Sharon gets tired of hearing how many hours I have during burn-in, this is the 3rd amp to go through this ordeal, she says to let her know when it's done, not until.
Regards, Ron
