A stock TU-X1 sold last night at auction for $2,576. I thought I paid a lot for mine at $1,880. Personally I don't think it's worth 2500 bucks and I'm not so sure it's worth $1800 either. There are a lot of fine tuners out there for a lot less money.

Man that's a lot of money. I hope for that price it came with the original box/packaging, receipt, manual, and blow up doll. :D

Yes, kinda ridiculous, but I want one, just not that bad.
I am waiting for the one at the yard sale.

Yeah, that's the right idea. Like David at the TIC who found one at an estate sale for $199!

Well I lusted for one for several years but couldn't justify the price. However I did buy a service manual and from the schematics and circuit descriptions I can feel that it is one of the finest designed AM/FM tuner for the consumer market ever. Only a fewest of the audiophile class tuners can compair and I suspect it's AM section is the best ever made for the hi-fi market.
But basiclly I agree with your thoughts, there are plenty of great tuners for a lot less money and so much depends on how well one invests in their antenna situation before they really can justify this kind of TOTL tuner. A good 5 gang FM tuner with switchable IF bandwidths will probably deliver as good a FM signal as one really needs as long as a quality outdoor antenna is included.
It's all about the antenna :thmbsp:

Yeah, it's about the antenna, but it's also about toys, I love toys, and that tux1 is a really neat toy, and remember the old adage, "he who dies wiith the most toys wins"
