View Full Version : Since this is the tube section ...
...I'll ask a couple more questions if ya don't mind.
I have this eico 22wpc model 2050 amp. One channel is out. It has had a fresh set of new tubes recently installed but that made no difference.
Any ideas what might be the problem?

Eico...nice lil amp. I wish I could tell ya on that one but without being able to get in there and start dropping my tester around it's hard saying why that channel is out. Seeing how you have new tubes and you are certain they are all good why... Maybe someone here though could point you better than me. But I sure wouldn't know short of seeing it.
wanna see it WW? I'll send her out! :)

Hey Don,
Wanna trade that amp for somethin'? I got lots of stu-uff I need to get rid of to make space. Contact me off list if you might.
Rob
Hey Don,
That dead channel probably needs a new loudness capacitor. :lmao:
Thats a joke, eh!
Rob
Rob thanks for telling me that was a joke! I'd be looking for that for the next couple of hours!
I put this amp on ebay yesterday or the day before if you're interested in it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1361693772

Next time someone has an amp that needs fixed but lacks the time, equipment, or experiene to do it ... that's what I do. For DIY amp repairs, always check the coupling capacitors which could be open (likely to cause a dead-channel symptom) or leaky (will upset the dc bias on one or more tubes causing any of several problems up to and including transformer damage). I use a Sprague TO-4 bridge to test coupling caps for capacitance and for insulation resistance.

Don,
Unfortunately you gave me notice after it sold. Prior notice is generally more helpful. Thanx.
Rob
Rob I think you might have just looked at it a little late. I posted the ebay link for you on 6/23. It just closed yesterday (6/28) and did not meet the $100 reserve. I relisted it last night with a much lower BIN and it sold immediately.
According to those dates I let ya know about it 5 days before it closed. :dunno: ;)
