View Full Version : A couple of new HT subwoofers
bully 07-03-2007, 07:09 AM Just bought two of these http://www.a-neutronics.com/shop/index.php?cPath=22&osCsid=60135917d48d73070cccdd1e83238a4f
Both of my old 15" subwoofers have died. Need the boom for the TV/DVD.
The weigh about 61 lbs, so I'm hoping they won't be dogs.

Why 2 subs for HT? Also curious why you chose Neutronics ($1000 on an apparently unknown quantity) over better known brands (for subwoofers, at least) such as Velodyne, SVS, Paradigm, and Hsu? Not meaning to dismiss your choice, but I've never heard of Neutronics subs before.

bully 07-11-2007, 01:24 AM Got them cheap. New. Supposed to weigh about 60 lbs.
Well, I used a pair of 15-inch subwoofers until I blew one driver by a stupid thing, and the other just seems to have died.
If nothing else, they'll replace the two dead 15s as speaker stands for the HiFi systems.
If I used subs with a stereo system, I would need two. One for each channel.

Well, if you got a good deal on them, then it makes a lot more sense!
Actually, you'd only need one sub even in a stereo system if the cross to the sub were low enough. But if the mains aren't truly full-range, then it makes sense to have 2. Thanks for the clarification.:D
Hope they work out well (keep us posted).:thmbsp:

Two subwoofers sound MUCH better than just one. Two subs offer better detail, better impact, and more presence, plus it's much harder to tell where the sound is coming from, even with the subs crossed over <80 Hz it is still possible to tell the difference. Multiple subs also smooth out response due to interactions from room boundaries/furnishings.
