I just pulled the trigger on the Onkyo TX-NR1000 A/V Receiver yesterday. I must say that this thing is a BEAST. The receiver weighs 73 pounds and sounds very good. Two channel is not quite as smooth as my older Onkyo Integra TX-DS939, at least not yet, could get better with time though; I know the 939 did. In any surround mode this thing is FAR SUPERIOR to the older 939. I tried the new Yamaha RX-V2700 and there was no comparison, the 1000 blows it out of the water in every way.

The silver model is being discontinued and the price was dropped from $4999 to $1689 so I had to try it. I was going to get the Anthem AVM-30 but for this price I figured what the heck.

I have the 1000 hooked up as a preamp for my fronts that are bi-amped by my Soundcraftsmen PCR-800 amplifiers for now. I know that the two main channels of the 1000 can be run BTL with the two back effects channels for 300 watts per channel or the rears can be used to bi-amp the fronts but the PCR-800 is doing fine for now.

I will do an in-depth review if I decide to keep it past the 30 day return policy.

This is the manual for the beast.

And here is a review of the Integra 10.5 (same exact receiver except the upgrade cards are extra for the Integra and standard for the Onkyo), although I would have thought it would have been the other way around...

And some info from Onkyo on it too.

1689, thats amazing.....it was going to drop eventually, but I don't see any new models on the horizon.

the BTL function is a great feature.

The main feature about the unit I like are the 7 24/192 dac chips.

You could get 500 for your tx-ds939 , when you factor that into the purchase, it could make the 1000 a keeper.

Who has these for 1689?

Yeah, I also like the fact that the receiver is both software and hardware upgradeable.

This may very well be the last receiver that I will ever have to buy.

I called Onkyo and they said they are working on HD and XM radio tuner cards for it and they said they have some neat surprises that will be available in the future.

I am selling my 939 to my neighbor for $450. :)

Fry Electronics has them for sale. I got the next to last one at the Indianapolis store.
