I have been an Admirer of Lyle Mays ever since the first time I saw him perform with The Pat metheny group in the early 80's.A very gifted and Brilliant
Pianist.Today at the used record/cd store I found a
copy of this 1998 recording!

Here's the writing from the linear notes-

This music is totally improvised from beginning to end, based on no preconceived melodic, harmonic or structual material and the first peice you hear is
the first thing Lyle played when he sat down
at the Piano for this session.
With the modern Piano technology now available
(utilizing the Yamaha Disclavier system)
We were able to record (in addition to the acoustic piano performances themselves)the information
about the notes he played,to a computer simultaneously, allowing him to add or shape the
orchestrations that accompany the acoustic piano
after the fact.
In addition to Lyle's highly personal and profoundly musical palette of synththesized sounds, these
orchestrations contain a new set of sounds taken from the piano itself,Sounds which are transformed
into Dramatic effects that retain an Organic connection to their source. The results-
Piano compositions of the moment, combined with
an exspansive extra layer of musical orchestration
that derives almost exclusively from the notes and textures of the initial piano performances!:thmbsp:

This is not a Keith Jarret -Koln concerts kind of recording.Studio,Very well mixed to my ears.
The effects are excellent,Kurzweil and disklavier piano
It has a very nice feel to it and Im sure it must be alot of Fun to be able to sit down to a piano
and play this stuff!Beautiful!Good Score:yes:

A very mathematical player, this one. The 1998 Solo album you've cited is a good one for sure.
