Vol.4, only because it reminds me of my time in high school when 3 or 4 of us would skip school and gather at one of the guy's house who's both parent's worked and we could hang out all day. Playing cards, watching tube and drinking RC cola and eating cheesecorn. Cheesecorn because we all had the munchies!...:smoke:

Seen Ozzy live once, and several times on TV live.. and I always thought he sounded like shit.. but man does the studio make him sound great...

However, I'm not real big on the new album.. just too commercial sounding..

My personal favorite Sabbath album is "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", it has some great tunes! I've seen Ozzy about 5-6 times, Sabbath twice, it's usually hit or miss with Ozzy's voice.

My all-time favorites are on Paranoid-
War Pigs, Paranoid, Rat Salad, Fairies Wear Boots, Iron Man... :music:
But there's a lot of other Sabbath & Ozzy I love.
When I saw Ozzy on his first solo tour in '81, when he sang Crazy Train, and did the I-I-I-I thing, he was drunk & out of tune, and the echo effect echoed his out-of-tune-ness! It was bad & comical at the same time... :smoke:
He made it OK when he told us we were "A GREAT FUCKING AUDIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!"
I wouldn't boo him, it was Ozzy for crying out loud!

The first album - Wicked World.:guitar:
Pretty much my likes follow the order of issued.
Out of 1971, 73, 75, 77, 80, 82, 92, and 95 shows I attended the 1975 show was the best.

N.I.B. The bass line will crunch your teeth, and the raw energy is awesome. Watching them play on the DVD "The Last Supper"is simply amazing. I also saw Sabbath on the Heaven and Hell tour with Dio in Philly. Could barely hear for 3 days after that. Sabbath!!

It is a toss up for me, I like all versions of this band. It says Black Sabbath in the dictionary under the first definition of the word "Heavy". :)

Here are the ones I like the most.

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Heaven and Hell
Cross Purposes

Sabbath fan until I die.

I usually prefer the older Sabbath, but for some reason, I wore out a copy of Never Say Die.. it's about the newest album they did that I liked..

Gotta go with Paranoid. I just picked it up on the UK Vertigo label. I wonder what our UK friends munched on when listening to Sabbath back in the day?

Same here gearhead, paranoid is the one.. I was exposed to this album first by my parents of all people. I remember listening to it (and loving it) when I was seven or so.

I have the reissue Paranoid on 180gm and it's very nice. I've worn out at least three copies in my life- the first was that green label warners I got from my parents because they apparently lost interest. Not sure why- I'm a parent now and I love listening to it still.

Nothing goes better with a 18" electric green tobacco water pipe than paranoid. except Dark Side, maybe.

It is nice to see some Sabbath fans. Parnoid was the first Sabbath album I heard(around '77/'78) and is probably my favorite but I like all the Ozzy years and a bit of the Dio era as well. Sabbath IS the blueprint for metal IMO

Ponderbear...The Mark Twain National Forest is a beautiful place. Need to get the canoe off the rack and on one of the rivers down there soon.

It is beautiful, indeed. Nothing beats the heat like a cold spring-fed stream, whether you're canoeing, fishing, or just wandering. That is, unless you have real mountains nearby. sigh.

Very true. I do miss the mountains and the ocean though

I was just listening to War Pigs.... WOW...

I concur, this song when cranked for lack of a better discription, the guitar effect and jam, dances around the room.
If you know what we're talking about you'll say "Wow" too.

Debut album and Vol 4 for me, hell I really like them all. I cut my teeth on this band n the 70's. Favorite songs are Black Sabbath and Wheels of confusion.

I just found my first Sabbath on vinyl last week at the local GW, I was pretty pumped cuz you never see them, haven't had a chance to fire up a heater and put it on yet. I did see them a few weeks ago with Dio, pretty good show, they played "Heaven & Hell" for about 30 minutes...oh well....As far as Ozzy, I've seen him around seven times and he has always sounded great live(surprisingly), who can resist his pull when he preaches "put your hands in the air" or the calling of "I can't f**king hear you."

Too many:

One of these days, I'm going to cover "Sabbra Cadabra", and it won't suck, like Metallica's version. I really think they missed the essence of that main riff.

"Black Sabbath" -- such a moody piece, not too much else out there in the world like it, especially in 1969. Pretty much all doom metal (or anything else dirge-y) can be traced back to there, in one way or another. "Hand of Doom" is another one with great atmosphere, and it's got some nice subtle drumming.

"All Moving Parts (Stand Still)" -- Ozzy at his bizarre best, lyrically, and it's such an epic piece.

Technical Ecstasy had a bunch of other great songs on it: Gypsy, Back Street Kids, and You Won't Change Me, and Dirty Women.

"The Writ" is great played loud. I love those two sudden crashes of loud.

"Sabbath Bloody Sabbath", "Children of the Grave" and a bunch of others are just great riffs combined with great guitar tones.

Dio era: pretty much all of Heaven and Hell is great ("Lonely is the Word"), as are several tracks off of Mob Rules.

"Johnny Blade" is yet another great "deep cut".

I picked up a re-mastered "Best Of" set last year. Believe it or not, they did a good job!

A tidbit, Black Sabbath got it's "sound" when Tony cut off finger tips of his playing hand. He devised some false tips, down tuned his guitar to make it easier to finger chords, and created the growling sound we all know so well.

Oh my fav? Master of Reality.

Black Sabbath, tied with Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. The first because I bought it right after Paranoid was released, and still like it better, and SBS because it's my wife's favorite. I gave it to her on her birthday in 1974. Still in love after all these years.

Regarding the fingers...those of us with the original "Gatefold" LP Vol. 4 you can see the fingercaps really well in the concert photo's that come with this LP....

The Wizard. Obvious Tull influences in this song (Iommi's doing?). Geezer and Ward pretty much make the song. I've always loved the bass line and distinctive drums. Badass song.

I know this is kind of cheating but I am a best hits kind of guy. So it would be Star Gold 2lp set from Germany. Their first 5 albums would have to be ties so I'll easy out on this one with the best hits cheater choice. :o oh if I must,- - - - - I'll vote for Paranoid.

I'd have to go with "Sabotage" with "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" a close second.
Bought SBS new on 8-track and played it non-stop in the 70's.

All good through Sabotage. If I had to pick one it would be "Master of Reality" best.

My guess would be he would favor the earlier long play release of the Jewish Sabbath although I could be wrong.

3rd that............I have a very early green label Warner Bros pressing that sound awesome. In fact I just listened to it last night and I couldn't help but think that Tony's guitar sounded alot like Jimmy Page on that album. :smoke:
