Well, along with the Lafayette Stereo 224 mentioned in another post, I also had the good fortune to pick up the matching LT-81 tuner and the matching gigantic "credenza" (for lack of a better word), with built in speakers, also Lafayette. The credenza is 8 feet long, about 2.5 to 3 feet high, and about 2.5 to 3 feet deep. Solid wood. Heavy. Really retro looking. What I was wondering, is it a console? The components (tuner and amp, both tube based) can be taken out but the speakers are set in there. The speakers are an interesting design, with a woofer, midrange, and tweeter all in sort of the same assembly. Oh yeah, did I mention it was free? Unfortunately, there is some minor water damage on the top, and some odd oxidation/corrosion/??? on the tuner and amp. If anyone knows anything about the console or individual pieces, please tell me. I'll post some pics soon.

Photos will help condiderably in the quest to ID things.

When you say "all in sort of the same assembly", do you mean coaxial?
Here's some examples:

Not specifically but back in the day, not only could you buy all-in-one consoles from Magnavox, Motorola, and so on, you could stuff a prebuilt console with gear you selected. Sounds like that is what yours is. Consoles can yield surprises like Dynaco, McIntosh, & Marantz too.

Yeah, it sounds like it is a coaxial speaker. It has a midrange and a tweeter mounted inside the woofer cone. Surprisingly, the cone wasn't rotted. Dusty, but that's expected. Pics coming tomorrow, since I'm tired right now.

On an unrelated note, the ads are very interesting. I like in the SK-215 ad, under specifications, the "Magnetic Flux Density". What the heck is that?

MY father built this back in around 1960

It housed an Eico HFT90 FM tuner, a homebrew phono and tape head preamp, and homebrew audio amps based on Dynaco output iron. My brother tossed the amps :tears:
