I've had this on for an hour or so. There's been some unbelievably bad music up to this point. I'm trying really hard to stick it out for a while, but admit to switching to CNN when Black-Eyed Peas took the stage.

Urizen 07-07-2007, 12:35 PM I'm suprised that I have lasted this long, and I just started watching about 15 minutes ago. The sound quality through my sat feed is piss poor, thin sounding sizzle with no bass. Nice camera work, though. CarlV 07-07-2007, 12:51 PM I can't believe you would consider turning that on to view in the first place. Otherwise, Mods/Admins, tank it. The event *is* socio-political in its very nature. The concert music is just there to sneak in the message on the sly. It'd be kinda like talking about music performed at an Inaugural Ball and not mentioning who the President was. Carl PaulParrot 07-07-2007, 03:32 PM Some of you oldtimers will remember when promoter Sid Bernstein tried to get The Beatles back together for a reunion concert, and the plan was that everyone was supposed to bring a can of food with him to donate to reduce world hunger. Thank goodness The Beatles were more in touch with reality than that. Interestingly enough, there were several rock acts this year who said the whole idea of holding a concert for this socio-political matter was crazy. I'm not going to comment on the music other than to say that I guess some people like it. cabinover 07-07-2007, 03:43 PM www.liveearth.org Goes nowhere. I don't know of anyone playing this global warming money maker that I would give a red cent to see or hear. IMHO merrylander 07-08-2007, 08:23 AM Guess we are getting old, we watched a movie on DVD, then put on another DVD - Andrea Bocelli - Under a desert sky, now there were some real musicians, great guitar, harmonica and accordion player as well as the whole orchestra. And we didn't have to worry about sound as the DVD player runs only the picture to the TV, the audio goes to the CR-2020 and the Polk 7Bs.:D dr.ido 07-08-2007, 08:37 AM I saw a bit of it at a friends place, it was on at least 3 channels here. I couldn't stomach it long enough to wait for any of the better bands to come on. It wasn't the music that turned me off, it was the scrolling ads and other crap taking up the bottom third of the screen, the big logos in the top two corners of the screen and the ad breaks in between every song! Did every channel broadcasting it do this? jazzwolf 07-08-2007, 08:00 PM Some of it was good but most of it was unbearably bad. There was a real terrible supposed R&B singer from England called Joss Stone who I couldn't believe how bad she sounded. There is nothing that turns me off than someone trying to sing R&B who does not have the chops. I decided to change the channel at that point. I don't know who she is but I pray I never hear her again. :thumbsdn: reggaenaut 07-08-2007, 09:18 PM Alicia Keys is doing it. PaulParrot 07-09-2007, 09:13 PM These poor band members must be pretty upset that their much bally-hooed audience of 2 Billion turned out to be more on the order of 3 Million. similost 07-09-2007, 09:20 PM Amen. The highlight of the whole thing as far as I'm concerned. I've never been a big fan of hers, but that was BY FAR the coolest live act I have seen for years and years.. I wished more artists would stand up and say what they really think like she did. Nothing like doing it to music too!!!! jonman 07-09-2007, 09:23 PM I found the whole thing kind of phony, to urge the conservation of energy while they were wasting so much on needless lighting and special effects and big screens, displaying multiple images of the same thing as they were watching live. I would have been more impressed with a bare bones setup like at Woodstock(The original). It seemed like a lot of waste. |
