I use my Dynaco A-25's currently with my M&K V-125 Subwoofer, Klipsch KSF C-5 Center and Klipsch RSX-5 Surrounds.
I listen to most of my music in the Stereo Mode, but if I want to do any enhancing I just switch to Dolby PL II and turn the center channel off.
Sounds pretty sweet to these old ears and the Sub really goes low.
I alternate back and forth between the Dynaco's, Canton Karat 60's, AR-3's and KLH-17's. They all make great mains. It just depends on my mood at the time. It's fun experimenting with all the mains.

Is my input valid even though ALL my speakers are vintage? :D
They are of differing vintage though. The speakers I want to hear most of the time are my Boston A-150s through a NAD 7125 receiver. However, I like jazz a little better on my Pioneer HPM-60s powered by a Kenwood KR-6600. those two systems make up my "main" system in the sense that I listen to them just about as often as the other, and they are in the same part of the house.
No other way to go besides vintage, as far as I'm concerned... I've logged plenty of hours listening to new equipment and have yet to find a system I'd prefer listening to Blue Train on, without taking out a second mortgage at least.

Would '87 Klipsch Forte's be considered vintage?
If not, my project speakers will qualify for the most part - new compression drivers and crossovers, but much older bits otherwise. (Forgive me... I like posting this picture):

Plenty of vintage speakers in the house, but the LR hi-fi usually has new(er), DIY speakers on it. Gratuitous, redundant stock photos of the parties in question also appended :-)
* Bob Brines-designed, mass loaded, folded TQWT cabinets with Radio Shack 40-1354 fullrange drivers, sweetened with R/S 40-1375 planar tweeters crossed in very high as 'supertweeters'. (N.B. The Cornwalls seen in the linked photo are currently serving as shelf space in the basement for some equipment)

* Fostex FE-207E fullrange 8" drivers in 1 ft^3 bass reflex (Birch plywood & MDF) cabinets

* The other living room denizens, used ca. 25% of the time, are indeed vintage: a pair of fairly late production Quad ESL-57's.

Polk Monitor 10s for the front channels on my HT setup.
Snell Type Ciis are on the 'A' speaker outputs for the LR setup, with a pair of Large Advents on the 'B' speaker outputs.
Pioneer HPM 100s in the bedroom.
The other 40 pairs or so are awaiting refoaming, or in storage...:sigh:

Pioneer CS-63DXs as my mains. Want another pair to stack dont know if it will sound any better but the size will be impressive.
Actually these run about 99db/w/meter so with tubes they work well.

I just picked up a NAD 7125 from CL find here in KC with a set of Boston A-70's for $50. I am using the NAD in my Computer room hooked up with another set of KLH-17's with my computer as source. How do you like the NAD? I think it's a great little receiver and love the compact size. The NAD came with all the original packing, box and owners manual. Got all the boxes and packing with the A-70's as well. Do you know what the MSRP was on the NAD when new?

You might find the A-70 speakers nicer than the 17's. Check em out.

Main/Surround: HPM 100
Center: SpeakerCraft AIM Monitor Four (A Good Voice Match To Pioneers)
Sub: Definitive Technology Pro Sub (Rarely used)
I do listen to 5 channel stereo alot, And of course DVD-DVDA-SACD plenty
also. Needless to say, Things can get loud around here. Here's a pic of
the Center, I looked for one with the biggest drivers I could afford, And
with 2 8" mid woofers, These won. They hold there own pretty well with
a pretty efficient main speaker.
AR-3a for my main speakers, but I'm anxiously awaiting my AR-LSTs, which are currently being refurbed and which will replace the 3as as my main system speakers.

Sansui SP-1500s, recapped crossover  they DON'T have the stereotypical sansui drawbacks, they sound better than any sansui's I have ever heard...my SP-200's on the other hand, I never play, because they sound like shit, which I think is a combination of 40 year old caps and the 5 inch or so port...need to close that up a bit and re-cap and they should be pretty sweet.

I started with a basic but decent Yamaha surround sound package. My mains are now Klipsch KF-20s. I've switched the rear speakers over to a pair of Polk LS F/X speakers I recently obtained. I have a line on a Klipsch center speaker and subwoofer that will complete the transformation. Best of all, my wife thinks the KF-20s are a pair of old towers that I resurrected from the basement, and since all the other speakers are "black", she has been oblivious to me bringing in more audio gear. She has noticed a sonic difference, but can't figure out why. :music: :music: I'll eventually have to spill the beans.

I used to use my Altec Valencias (1965ish) for mains but when I redid the living room and went 5.1 and HD, I could not find any speakers that would timbre match or track with linear volume.

What kind of surround reciever are you using to puch the JBLs? Just wondering. Or are you using a regular receiver to push them? Michael...:scratch2:

I'm using a Denon AVR 2800 with the JBL's. More than enough power to do the job but my listening room is only 11 x 11.
