Flipping through the FM dial on Tuesday night, the local hard rock station, WAAF, was playing a song that was sounded so familiar, yet never heard before, so I stopped twirling the dial and listened. It's kind of hard to explain, it's not some band trying to sound like Metallica covering Beatles songs, it's a strange mix of Metallica riffs, vocals, and lyrics, with Beatles melodies and lyrics thrown in as well. They combine a Metallica song with a Beatles song, for example "The Thing That Should Not Let It Be" "I Wanna Choke your Band" "Leper Madonna" you get the idea... They just released their first full length album on Tuesday, apropriately titled "Sgt Hetfield's Motorbreath Pub Band", a follow up to the 8 song EP known as the "Grey" album (Metallica's Black album/Beatle's White album) I only heard the one song, and for the life of me I can't remember which one it was now (I'm getting old, plus I'm heavily medicated!) but I thought that for what it was, it was well done. My thrash metal days are behind me now, I think I just got bored with the fact that everything started to sound the same, I'm certainly not going to admit it's because I have grown up (NEVER!) at all! They have a website, beatallica.org and are touring to promote the album. According to the website, their material had been released for free as Mp3 downloads, to avoid legal hassles, so it should be out there if you are interested. Obviously not for everyone, and I doubt anybody will throw away their Metallica and Beatles collection after hearing this, but a song or two might find it's way into your I-Pod... :scratch2:

Thanks for heads up Birddog. Sounds interesting. I'd love to hear a few tracks just for kicks. I still enjoy listening to Kill 'Em All, Master Of Puppets, Ride The Lightning and occasionally And Justice For All. You can keep everything after that. Waaaay to burnt out on the Bob Rock produced stuff.

I downloaded the Beatallica stuff that Helge kindly provided. I burned it to ceedee and am listening to it now. The lead singer is a spot on match for James Hetfield. He's got his singing style nailed down completely. The music is, well, quite amusing in a Spinal Tap sort of way. They do incorporate some of Metallica's riffs into the music but for the most part this is a band sounding like Metallica playing Beatles songs.
It was cool to hear this and my curiousity is satisfied. I doubt it will get much play except to amuse friends and family.

The first Dread Zeppelin album is a classic. They put on a great live show as well.
I've been digging on the two Beatallica albums for 3 years now. They tour also. I think you can still get all there stuff at beatallica.com.
