My dad loved The Ventures and had alot of their albums.
I was going through his collection (well my collection now in an unfortunate way) and found a few of The Venture albums he had and took a pic.

Anybody else a Ventures fan or fan of older instrumental music in general?

Excellent stuff. Those are classic LPs. Regards to your dad.

Ah yes, depicted with their pre-Mosrite-endorsement-era instruments: got a P Bass, a Strat and what's probably an ES-355 (but maybe as early ES-345?) These are the instruments they preferred to play, but the Mosrite crap were the ones they were (eventually) paid to play.

BTW...Bart Simpson's head was inspired by Mosrite's ugly headstock and keys...

Did anyone besides me learn to play guitar with the Ventures? Those were a blast....

Outstanding LP's your dad has there.

The Brian Setzer Orchestra does a killer cover of the Hawaii Five-O song. :thmbsp:

I've got their greatest hits, but I'd love to find those albums. :thmbsp: Good pop instrumentals were common back in the "good old days."

Well, not only The Ventures, but I notice the lower half of a Jean-Luc Ponty LP (and a good one too!).

I picked that up at a local Goodwill store in very mint condition for $0.75
It almost looks like it has never been played

Love their albums, I think they recorded just under a million different titles...interesting info about the instruments, didn't know that about the endorsement...I've picked up about 10 of their albums this year at the local yard sales including "The Ventures On Stage" with plastic wrapping still on the jacket. Of course it's recorded in visual sound STEREO, but I have a feeling you need some herbal medication for the visual effect, I can't seem to get it to work......

The one I grew up on was "The Ventures play "Telstar" & "The Lonely Bull"...Remember the rocket launch at the beginning & end of "Telstar"? Kewl stuff for the early '60s...

Picked up a very good copy of their Swamp Rock LP and a decent copy of their Surfing LP yesterday. I have about 12-14 lps by them. My favorite still is the Telstar LP.

Is that a Jon Luc Ponty album sitting up in the background?

Yes, Ed, the first song I learned on guitar was Walk, Don't Run. My friend and I figured out the bass, rhythm and lead parts and recorded them on a cheapo Sony cassette recorder. Those were the days.

I have several Ventures albums on vinyl, including Play Guitar with The Ventures.

"Surfing" is probably my favorite.

Well, I suppose everybody knows how I would answer that one. I have three of their LPs and am constantly looking for others. I even saw the Ventures back in the 80s.

I saw Jean-Luc Ponty live about a month ago. He signed my King Kong cd cover. Great show, nice guy.

Yes, I learned "Walk Don't Run" and "Pipeline" from their Learn to play the Ventures. In all the record stores and yard sales I have yet to see any others of these instructional albums. Since I don't play much better now than I did then I could use a refresher!

Just picked up Let's Go the Ventures in mint condition at the local thrift during lunch today and you guessed it I am playing it right now at work. Way cool!

My uncle (more like an older bro) had a ventures songbook and learned to play electric guitar from it. So I have two memories of "Walk Don't Run-" the real one and my unc struggling to get that lick down.

I inherited his collection of Ventures vinyl after it became clear he was more of a country fan. My favorites are "Super Psychedelics" (great use of pedals on that one) and, hands down, "The Ventures Play the Country Classics." They play "Panhandle Rag" at lightning speed as if their lives depended on it. I still crank that one now and then.

You guys bag on the Mosrite guitars, but the fact is that original Mosrites have become pretty collectible, clean ones fetching what vintage Gibsons or Fenders get. Mosrite was started by the guy in his garage right here in lil' ol' Bakersfield. How bout that. As far as I know his pickups got more attention than the guitars did, but I think that was later.

If you ever get to Bakersfield, stop by Front Porch Music downtown and see his collection of Mosrites, plus nearly everything else...

I only recall seeing one Mosrite in person. It was fugly as hell, but played/sounded great.
