What model number was the top of the turntable line the PL-530 with the wood base came from?
I'm trying to figure out which table had the same styling.

View Full Version : Pioneer Linage best of the PL-530 line Mark W. 07-14-2007, 01:03 AM What model number was the top of the turntable line the PL-530 with the wood base came from? I'm trying to figure out which table had the same styling. hakaplan 07-14-2007, 02:02 AM The line went as follows: Belt: PL-112D (manual), 115D (semi-), 117D (auto) Direct Drive: PL-510A (manual), 530 (auto) Direct Drive Quartz: PL-550 (manual), 570 (auto) The PL-570 was the top of the line, with adjustable VTA, longer tonearm than all the others. (235mm vs. 221mm) The PL-550 also had adjustable VTA. Mark W. 07-14-2007, 09:52 AM Thanks that is more then I had hoped for jleon92f 07-14-2007, 12:27 PM The line went as follows: Belt: PL-112D (manual), 115D (semi-), 117D (auto) Direct Drive: PL-510A (manual), 530 (auto) Direct Drive Quartz: PL-550 (manual), 570 (auto) The PL-570 was the top of the line, with adjustable VTA, longer tonearm than all the others. Highly recommended. pustelniakr 07-14-2007, 08:22 PM Hi, What about the PL-630 Direct Drive TT?:scratch2: John:music: PL-630 is in the SPEC lineage, sothe cosmetic styling and appearance do not match those listed, although it is a seriously high-end table, as well you know :) Enjoy, Rich P hakaplan 07-14-2007, 10:47 PM Hi, What about the PL-630 Direct Drive TT?:scratch2: John:music: The PL-570 group was 1976. The PL-630 was 1978. The turntable lineup (some models started in 77) was essentially PL-512, 514, 516, 518, 520, 540, 560, and 630, although as Rich said, the styling of the 630 (and even the number, not really fitting in with the rest of the series) set it apart and clearly indicated its spec lineage. EDIT: Forgot the PL-610, semi-auto version of the PL-630. Mark W. 07-15-2007, 02:57 PM OK so I have the target now since I prefer a manual table the PL-550 should be the best one with this cosmetic styling. Thanks guys jleon92f 07-15-2007, 03:28 PM PL-630 is in the SPEC lineage, sothe cosmetic styling and appearance do not match those listed, although it is a seriously high-end table, as well you know :) Enjoy, Rich P Thanks for the info! RichP John.:music: Windwalker 01-24-2008, 08:00 PM What's the lineage for the 600 series ie 610,620,630 Looks like they moved away from wood\wood-look around here Thanks redcoates7 01-24-2008, 09:55 PM I love this about AK...ask a question about some gear that peoeple know and love and the answers just flood in! You're all allright...even if you are Pioneer guys :) marantzfan 01-24-2008, 11:08 PM OK so I have the target now since I prefer a manual table the PL-550 should be the best one with this cosmetic styling. Thanks guys I really like the looks of the 550, but I had always thought that it would look better with real walnut veneer than the simulated walnut vinyl veneer. Just a thought.. MAXZ28 01-24-2008, 11:12 PM Kind of makes you wonder Pioneer's line of thinking since their receivers and amps were clad with real veneer that year...you woulda thought at least ONE TT model would have genuine veneer. Bigerik 01-24-2008, 11:18 PM How about the best of the Pioneers, the 590? Onepixel needs to chime in with his thoughts. :) http://www.audiogold.co.uk/catalogue/images/BIG_Pioneer_PLC-590.JPG marantzfan 01-24-2008, 11:19 PM Kind of makes you wonder Pioneer's line of thinking since their receivers and amps were clad with real veneer that year...you woulda thought at least ONE TT model would have genuine veneer. The same though crossed my mind many times and I still can't justify the logic (or lack there of) behind that decision.:scratch2: I got the PL-61 because of two reasons. #1 Siamac's endorsement that it is "The Best" pioneer table, and #2 Real walnut base!..It's a pretty machine. hakaplan 01-25-2008, 01:00 AM What's the lineage for the 600 series ie 610,620,630 Looks like they moved away from wood\wood-look around here Thanks PL-610 (semi-auto) and PL-630 (full auto) were the 1978 spec series. The lower tier models were PL-512, 514, 516, 518, 520, 540, 560. PL-600 was the top of the lineup that started with PL-100, 200, 300, etc. from 1979. Any other 600 tables (including the later 630) were lightweight, straight arm tables from the 80s. arrow 68 01-25-2008, 09:41 AM I have to get the speed right on my PL 71. I think the PL 71 was their first DD TT. Big, heavy steel speed, and power buttons. Solid wood plinth. It is a very attractive TT. Just not to sure about the DD Motors in Pioneer's. Windwalker 01-26-2008, 02:07 PM There was\is a VERY nicely redone, in maple, 530 on the bay. Here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130191613641&_trksid=p3907.m32&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching) But lord did they run the price up now at 251 plus 35 shipping /aside, what the he!! was wrong with the bidders 5&6, 50 buck bumps-dam* /aside off out of my price range but I know what to do if I score one of these cheap danj 01-26-2008, 06:56 PM The PL-570 is a big dog! It's big and heavy and terrific. This is my 570. It is in excellent condition EXCEPT for the bottom front edge where the plastic veneer has a few blisters. When I find the right stuff that will get refinished. spaceman 04-23-2008, 09:16 PM PL-610 (semi-auto) and PL-630 (full auto) were the 1978 spec series. That's good to read, I have a PL-630 coming tomorrow. This one looks pretty minty, but has a round hole (cigarrette?) in the dust cover. I don't think it'll just buff out, lol, and finding a replacement would probably be close to impossible, but I think I can live with it. I looked in the database, & saw it was $400 originally, so figured it was pretty good, but didn't realize it was a SPEC. :smoke: basicblues 04-23-2008, 10:17 PM Here's my PL-570 that I recently purchased. It's a looker for sure, near mint condition and came with the original owners manual. The guy I got it from said he doubted if the table had 25 hours of total use. (seller's photo). http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/basicblues/Audio%20Collection/PL-570.jpg alanp1 04-23-2008, 10:21 PM OK so I have the target now since I prefer a manual table the PL-550 should be the best one with this cosmetic styling. Thanks guys I highly recommend this table, Sometimes I come home and just stare at it.......:music: alanp1 04-23-2008, 10:24 PM She is too sweet........the PL 570 rocks as well, I am always on the look out for one.. |
