Found this one at a flea mkt for $2 today, had never owned it. Some damn fine music here, but the surprises were "Let's See Action" and "Relay", both of which I recall hearing Pierre Robert play on WMMR in Philly in the 80's, but hadn't heard since (and surely not out here). With the synthesizer opening I was surprised to find out "Relay" dated from '72. These guys were in a lot of ways WAAY ahead of their time. I prefer their 70's output to the earlier, twangier 60's stuff. I have heard it said that by the late 70's Keith Moon's drumming had suffered from his alcoholism, but a close listen to "Sister Disco" and "Who Are You" should lay that to rest. He sounds like the whole drum line from my high school marching band-all by himself. And playing some pretty complex patterns that define the song! Opinions?

PS Also picked up Townshend's "All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes"-if for no other reason than for the vintage Gibsons pictured therein.

Relay and Let's See Action were both singles released in the fallow years post-"Who's Next" and pre-"Quadrophenia". Join Together was the other single of that era -- I've got that one on 45 :-)

You'd probably like Big T's first solo album "Who Came First". It's excellent, if a bit quiet. Rhino released a CD with bonus tracks quite some time back. It's very good, but I'm afraid it's out of print.

Perhaps I am the only living fan of "Chinese Eyes", but I think there's some great stuff there (e.g., Stardom in Acton).

Speaking of Stardom in Acton: the video :-)
