I have an AU-517 and an AU-719, both in prestine shape but would like some good cleaning internally. Anyone know of a good place to take it in NC?

my first post here, great place.

will cleaning it change the sound? I like it the way it is, no issues and all components are original, just don't know if its time for a tune up

thanks again!

welcome to AK JI!

First thing is first: You have two very excellent pieces of sansui gear. I'm sure the group would love to see pictures!
As far as functionality, I wouldn't bother sending it in for repair unless the following conditions are evident:

*noise in the controls or switches

*differences in volume between channels even in mono

*sound cutting in and out

*amplifier running hot (put your hand over the vent where the heatsink is, and see if its very warm. with no signal after 30 mins from a cold start it should be cool to luke warm.

*excessive offset. If you have a voltmeter connect it to a spare set of speakers terminals, turn those terminals on and turn your main speakers off. you should be getting very little to no DC voltage. + - 0-50 millivolts is ok, but any more than that and sound quality diminishes. any more than 100mv and it needs adjustment.

IF you don't have anything that falls in those categories and the amp sounds good to your ears, then I would leave it be. Sansui amps are built like tanks and unless they've been sitting for any length of time they will last and last.

Again, welcome!

DJ88, welcome to AudioKarma & the [Exclusively Sansui] forum. Lots of great people here and enough good advice to keep you up to 3AM reading it!

I'll echo the advice just given by jpdylon, if they are not showing any signs of noise or drop-outs, cleaning is not indicated.

But if you do desire to check them out, read our FAQ thread. Lots of good maintenance tips there.

Welcome to AK and the Sansui forum DJ88. When the right channel of my AU-717 acted up about a year ago, I cleaned the switches and connects with something called DeOxit and that took care of the problem. There are many threads on AK about the nearly magical powers of this compound.

If you hang around you will also start connecting with some of the folks in your area who likely know of some good techs should you need one.

Great! thanks for the heads up. I'm in Matthews and currently running an A vs. B vs. C comparison between the Sansui 719, a Rotel pre-power, and a Yamaha receiver. The Sansui wins heads down despite lacking the clarity of the Rotel Of course the rotel amp (RB-1080) is 200 W per channel.

This amp is so sweet!!
