Ok, who, besides me, makes a point to listen to "Alice's Restaurant", in its entirety, at least once on Thanksgiving?

View Full Version : Thanksgiving Tradition Dave918 11-26-2003, 05:21 PM Ok, who, besides me, makes a point to listen to "Alice's Restaurant", in its entirety, at least once on Thanksgiving? -Dave HiFi 11-26-2003, 06:27 PM The local classic rock station has a fundraiser every year on Thanksgiving weekend......call in and pledge money, and they'll play any song you wanna hear (assuming they have it and it's not too dirty of course). Alice's Restaurant has become a tradition for them. I try to catch it every year when it's on the air. tentoze 11-26-2003, 06:38 PM Originally posted by Dave918 Ok, who, besides me, makes a point to listen to "Alice's Restaurant", in its entirety, at least once on Thanksgiving? -Dave The local college public radio station has a Sunday afternoon 4 hour session called "Patchwork" that plays bluegrass, Americana, some alt.countryish stuff. Last Sunday, the DJ played a live version of Arlo doing Alice's Restaurant from 1996, I think, that has some great added story-line regarding the coincidence of the song length of the "original" Alice versus the famous Watergat/Nixon era smoking gun 18min 20 sec erased tape......... JDaniel 11-26-2003, 07:03 PM Dave - why do you think I created that "Storytellers" comp I sent ya? My brother and I for 20 years have had a tradition of canoeing/trout fishing early Thanksgiving morning, then rush home by noon to hear the local radio station play Alice's Restaurant. This year we have to break our tradition. Since we will be in different states, I created that storytellers comp, ending it with Alice's Restaurant Massacree. BTW - how'd you like it? JDaniel ....you can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant....'cepting alice of course DingusBoy 11-26-2003, 07:08 PM I will be spinning the vinyl, might even sit on the bench to do it! And Friday... Cold Turkey by John Lennon Dave918 11-26-2003, 10:04 PM I'm a lovin' it JDaniel! Acually I should say 'them', there all good dude. Haven't listened to some of this stuff in a long while. It's all good man, thanks! -Dave Celt 11-27-2003, 10:37 AM I used to...now that you've brought it up...I think I'll give the ol' girl a spin! :D Tubejunke 11-30-2003, 12:42 AM I listened twice! I guess that makes me a fan. I knew it would be a good day when I rolled over in the morning and turned on the clock radio to be greeted with the opening guitar notes. Arlo is one of Americas best kept secrets. He and his family stay on the road and are great to see if anyone ever gets a chance. Since the corporate music Nazis cant make a cool million off folk music you may not hear much about the shows in your area so keep your eyes peeled or go to Arlonet.com and check out the schedule. No Budweiser sponsorship= fair ticket pricing. Also Arlo has been kind enough to sign my copy of Alices Restaurant along with a few others the few times we have met. He is very kind to his fans and that says alot I think. He actually has meet and greet time at most of his shows. |
