a pair of Pioneer HPM-100's and an Akai (AA-1030) receiver on the way to my favorite fishin hole, she had a bunch of stuff sittin out by the road with an "for sale" sign on it WAY out in the country.
Anyway I am not to familiar with Sansui speakers, I have heard alot of guys who like to voice their opinion as often and loud as possible say Sansui speakers are garbage, after listening to these and a pair of original Advent LS's, I would have to say I prefered the Sansui's to the Advents using an Yamaha M-70 amp and pre-amp.
I was hoping for some feedback on the top assembly, I have never seen anything quite like it. Here are some pics of my find!

The SP-2500's I had, had a top assembly similar to that. For the record, I have never said Sansui speakers were garbage. ( I have not got that pesky knot out yet) The ones I have had were not my cup of tea. There is a pair of SP-X6000 on CL locally that I am trying to ignore.

Any way, the top assembly can be removed to get to the mids and tweets. Just a design thing.

Nice find by the way.:yes:

I don't feel to bad, I chalk it up to Karma or one of those "comes around goes around" things' my ex got all my gear which included a couple very nice old tube amps and my Pings.

So did you catch any fish? Perhaps after reeling in all the gear, you were still trembling, so it didn't matter if you caught any fish? Nice catch!:yes: Brad

Great score. :thmbsp: Don't feel bad about the source.

Many don't like the Sansui speaker sound. Many do. Clearly, speakers are a very personal thing so audition them in your environment and decide for yourself. I like mine best when twinned with a pair of Infinity RS2's. Seems to bolster the mid-range.

THANKS! I just got around to testing the receiver, functions perfectly! No scratchiness in any of the controls. It matches up better with the 3500's than the HPM's, The HPM's sound a little better with The M70.
I just happen to have an pair of RS6B's I will try with the 3500's.

Sounds like your lucky day indeed. I have both the hpm 100's and the sp3500's also. Both pair of these fine old speakers will benefit greatly from a recap job. Easy to do (has to be if I can do it) inexpensive, and well worth the effort. The sansui's sound very good when driven with a tube unit I might add. The 100's are happy being driven with just about anything whether it's high or low power. Have fun

How do you like the SP-3500s compared to the HPM-100s??? I'm very interested in that/your personnal listening test! I do like the sound of Sansui speakers. I know everyone says Sansui speakers don't sound good but I have 4 each SP-2000s and I really like the sound of them. Those were the speakers I desired to have with my AU/TU-717 and at a cost of $100 each you just can't beat it. I really don't crank the music anymore anyway so they are perfect for me. They do sound really great for my home. The next step up for me in speakers is a pair of mint JBL 4343s, 4344s, or 4448s. When that will happen who knows, I'm in absolutely no hurry, but it will happen! Congradulations on your new speakers and could you give us a little sound test comparing the SP-3500s and the HPM-100s. They do look minty!!
Sansui Forever!! :music::thmbsp:

Sansui Forever!! :music::thmbsp:

I think there is a very broad range in sound quality (if I can use that simplistic term) between different Sansui speaker designs. I think that Sansui were looking more for 'curb appeal' than, say, Boston Acoustics or CV or Klipsh.

But what do I know about speakers? Not a lot. :thumbsdn: Only my ears tell me what I like and don't like. :scratch2:

YUP! Those Sansui's sound better with the Akai (lower power) rec. especially matched up with my RS6B's, In fact that is going to be the new set-up for the basement, that is where my wife has allowed me to keep my pool & foosball tables and banished most of my most precious possessions to(although she took down my old "Disco Sucks" poster, she leaves most things alone). I will use that speaker combo with an Onkyo TX4500,. Unfortunately I will have to sell the HPM's and the Akai receiver. The lattice covers on the Sansui;s go great with the retro look I am goin for.
BTW, I bought a pair of Pioneer spkr,s while stationed in Korea 1981 at the PX, I can't remember the model number and would like to try to find a pair, these things had 3 buttons just above the grille top front right. normal, crisp, and I can;t remember the 3rd, on the top left side they had an LED readout that flashed like an equalizer. Was hopin someone might know the model number
