Since I'm new around here, I'm just wondering if anyone else here is from Milwaukee. I don't have much money but I do have a boring job so I often see stuff just as it pops up on CL, which could be useful to other Milwaukeeans.

Also, a Sansui 771 (http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/ele/379234048.html) for under $65 (I'm assuming I can talk the guy down/not buy the RCA speakers) seems like a pretty decent deal to me, yeah? I have a friend who's looking for a decent vintage receiver/amp for <$50.

Thanks to everyone so far who's answered questions about the crappy equipment I've asked about. I'm trying to read up and look at backthreads here to get more knowledgeable but there's a lot out there!

Matt,
Welcome to AK!
I don't know if you're already aware of this site:
http://www.classicaudio.com/
You can get some general information about a lot of vintage gear there. Click on Valuation, then the manufacturer and find the model you're interested in.
Not a lot there on the 771 but it'll give you an idea of what you might expect to pay.

In my opinion that 771 is worth $50 if in good working condition. A friend gave me one in non working condition. I cleaned it up and she works flawlessly. Good sound, warm and solid. I think it would be a good starter for someone that wants to get into vintage stereo on the cheap. CC

Matt, welcome to AK. I paid $20 for a Sanusi 771 that is in mint condition thanks to some lucky circumstances, and I think $65 is a bit high for that reciever. You might keep checking your local CL to see what else shows up in that price range and see if this seller will lower his price.

Thanks for the feedback on the 771. I had at some point stumbled across classicaudio.com but I'd actually kind of forgotten about it, so thanks for the tip llama.

I think I'll probably hold off on the Sansui for now and see what else I can find. The friend it would be for is in Chicago and she won't even be back up to Milwaukee for a couple of weeks, so I bet something else interesting will come up.
