Well as the title says I have moved, and the layout for my stereo area doesn't allow cables to go from PC to receiver. I need cost effective(read:inexpensive) solutions to get the music flowing again. I used to use a 3.5mm into RCA adapter and a long patch cable. However that is simply not an option any longer. Preferably the solution would be a simple easy to use, wife friendly answer that if I'm really lucky includes video out as well.

Lemme know if you have any ideas.

Digital out -> external DAC near the receiver?

Hmm ok that sounds like a plan, probably a good one. However on mentioning it to the wife she vetoed it ... ironicly not because of money, she insists it be wireless, I may have wires at either end but /not/ between. I have no idea what to do for a wireless solution, as my memory serves me most wireless solutions have horrible fideleity.

Check out the Logitech Wireless Music System. It is USB and sends a wireless signal to a receiver that connects to your amp/preamp. I use one almost daily and love it, got it on ebay for around 60 bucks. It even has a credit-card sized remote. One of the great things about it is its totally indepent of any home network you may have, so it uses no bandwidth, and doesn't require a home network. They also offer the "DJ" version that has an LCD screen built into the remote to browse your music library.

I ordered one of these last week for the same reason. Plus now I will also have the PC music in the garage too...

Sorry for derailing this thread, but I have never had a problem with Cardomain, and don't get any popups. Take it up with me via PM.

Or punch holes in the walls.

This thing is great. And its very Hi-Fi. Your computer sends the files digitally over your home wireless network (router) and the built-in DAC converts it to analog. You could say the sound is better than a CD player because it doesn't have to deal with spinning disks, but rather a hard drive. I don't know if this is true, just what I've read. Anyways, the DAC is very high quality and is probably better than most resonibly priced CD players out there today. Here is the link. You'll love it. http://www.slimdevices.com/
