I have a chance to buy a pair of these but they are a good 2 hour drive (one way) away. Supposedly nice condition for $50 for the pair. Do these have regular foam woofer surrounds which would most likely need replacing.

PHEW THANKS!

BTW, in the mid 70's my girlfriend's father had a set of these. We rocked a little "Toys in the Attic" on them while he was stationed for a year in Tulie(sp?) Greenland. :D

You know Don. 50 bucks plus new surround kits. Let's say 75 bucks plus a tank of gas. Your car? Anyway, my point is that I might be inclined to go for it. Those look like some fun speakers. I just got done refoaming some 12" Sansui's. Easy job and the speakers sounded good. Currently the speakers are not in use and sit in storage but... It's all fun!! :D

I think those had cloth surrounds on the woofers?
"Thule" Greenland.
Yes, I was a teacher OUAT.
Anyway, the cabinets would be worth that much.

Don -

I have several pairs of Sansui speaks, (not this model though) and I have yet to find a pair with foam surrounds. They are have a sticky-to-the-touch pleated surround that does not rot. (yet)

$50 is a steal for some surprisly good sounding pair of speaks.

Most Sansui's have either a sticky rubber surround (as mentioned before) or paper for the older models. I had a pair of the 5500's of that line, and gave them to a youngster I worked with. I found the horn somewhat harsh but otherwise quite nice to listen to.
