After 5 years,I finally got around to getting inside my Pioneer Elite rear projector to clean the lenses on the crts and the rear mirror.I was stunned to find it almost free of any dust on the lenses.There was a slight film on them,however. The mirror was spotless.Once cleaned, I noticed an improvement in light output and colors seemed to snap once more.
On other sets i had, I used to do this routine on a yearly basis. They were always dirtier than this Pioneer.Says a lot about how well built these are.
Next step is to line the inside walls with black material to eliminate internal light bounce. Even with black painted internal walls, the light from the mirror still reflects off the walls and back onto the mirror. Should deepen an already superb black level. Meant to do this a few years ago, but got lazy with projects.
