View Full Version : Greetings from Northern California
woodlander 08-01-2007, 07:02 PM Hello to all. I have been reading the various forums for a while and I thought I'd introduce myself.
I am about 60 years old, mostly retired and a long term listener (I hesitate to say audiophile, since I think I know a lot less than many of the posters here).
My system is: a McIntosh MCD205, C46, MC402, Klipsch RF83 speakers and a RT-12D sub. Good basic equipment, nothing exotic.
I am into blues, classic rock, and classical.
I have had little exposure to vintage tube systems, but I am very interested in building or buying a tube amplifier.
I have to say this is one of the better forums I have found on the Internet. I appreciate the helpful attitude exhibited by the participants here.
Duffinator 08-01-2007, 07:04 PM Welcome to AK and you have some nice gear. Are you a woodlander from Woodland?

Welcome to AK.:thmbsp:
jcmjrt 08-01-2007, 07:11 PM Hi, there's a few of us NorCal types here. If you're in the Bay, there's a tube group that meets in SF every couple of months or so at the Randall Museum. You just missed a linestage shootout. The Randall also has classes occasionally for building audio gear and may hold a tube linestage building class this fall.

No, I am from Arcata (Humboldt County). We have a lot of trees up here.

Bah. Being an audiophile doesn't take encyclopedic knowledge. All that's required is a desire to have good sound and a willingness to learn :)

I don't think I can claim to be reformed. More like unrepentant, or is it incorrigible?

God's country. . . Bigfoot country. . . Big Tree country. . .
I've lived in Redding, Southern Oregon (Gold Beach among other places).
Met my wife in Coquille. traveled all the roads in that area looking for BF around 1972-77. Saw one in 74/5. Wrote an article about it that surfaces occasionaly. . . I will never forget that night. . .
And no it wasn't Hulk Hogan in a monkey suit. . . Did have blue eyes though. . .

ZebraBlvd 08-02-2007, 11:19 AM Welcome Woodlander - Any particular style of blues you like - I like it all myself and it makes up the biggest portion of my music core.

I don't know the proper names for the different categories, but favorite artists would include: Robert Cray, Joe Bonamassa, Popa Chubby, Gov't Mule and probably quite a few I am not remembering right now.
I recognize the importance of the historical influences, but I don't really care for the classic 'Mississippi delta' blues.
ponderbear 08-02-2007, 01:32 PM welcome from a fellow treehugger, woodlander!
I wasn't a big fan of delta blues until i heard the Library of Congress Muddy Waters recordings. Now "You're gonna take sick and die one of these days" makes a run through my head at least once a day.

Thanks. Maybe I'll give it a listen. I am looking for something new.

Not a damn thing wrong with the ones you listed. I like it all, from Delta (Mississippi John Hurt) to Electric (Stevie Ray Vaughn) and everything in between.
