I'm a relative newcomer to the site, but it became my online home so quickly that it feels like I'm an old-timer.
I'm 52, married with two kids (6 and almost 3). We live at Lake Tahoe and I travel to L. A. for two days every week. I'm a tax lawyer/cpa but I became a partner in a real estate development firm. I spend what little spare time I have skiing, boating, and right here on AK. I'm helping start up a gifted children's program at my kids' school, and I help at a local community foundation that acts as an umbrella for all the local non-profits, providing overhead services (office space, etc.) and encouraging collaboration between agencies.
My audio fixation started when I was about 10 years old - 1964, when my dad bought one of the very first Fisher consoles to include an FM stereo tuner. Hooked. I got my first stereo, a Sony TC-530 tape recorder when I was 12 in exchange for a long summer of weeding, gardening and washing cars, then a Scott 344C receiver when I was 13. Since then, it's been a long strange trip into the high end, from Adcom and PS Audio through Audio Research and Threshold, and finally, to McIntosh, which is what I run today. I like Infinity's older high-end products, and I'm a big fan of JM Lab's Utopia Be line. I collect stacks of separates (tuner, pre, amp) from the 70s (McIntosh, Accuphase, SAE, Sony V-FET, Marantz, Sansui), a few receivers (19, 2600, SX-1980, 1700, 4300V), and a pile of tuners.
I'm a fan of digital stuff, including iPods and I don't do vinyl. Not because I don't think it sounds great; I'm just too clumsy to be permitted to get anywhere near a record with a diamond stylus.
I listen to a lot of Diana Krall and modern country, which I think is what Rock-n-Roll turned into. My friend tentoze has stated that I have no taste in music, and that he'd rather drink Drano than listen to any of my favorites. I'd argue, but I suspect he's right.
I spend a lot of my favorite hours on this site, and I'm grateful to Grumpy for allowing me to contribute, and to my fellow admins and mods for helping me stumble along trying. This is the only place online where I've ever felt accepted by a group of folks that I'm proud to call friends, and I think a big part of that is that everyone can come to the AK Fest and meet. If you come, you'll see that the best folks on this site are even better in person.
Welcome to AK!

Spend a little time as mod and watch your post count rise. Every time you move a thread into $&S (which happens a LOT), you get to post that you moved it, then post to explain why, then post to explain the rule, then post to defend your mod decision, then post to... you get the idea.
Thanks for all the kind words everyone!

I don't wear ties... or use vinyl. Both make me uncomfortable. :D
Somewhere, deep in storage, I've got a Dual 1229 and a B&O 8002, both of which I purchased new way back when. The B&O was a godsend, since I didn't have to touch the tonearm. CDs are a huge handling improvement, and I loves me my music servers.
The really great news is that as I age, I'm less and less willing to work harder for the smaller and smaller difference between digital and vinyl. I'm hoping for SACD music servers... then I'm truly happy.
