I'm still quite new!
I recently decided to buy an old amp or receiver. I wanted something with wooden sides and chunky aluminium knobs like I remembered from my childhood in the 70s.
By the time I was old enough to buy my first amp in the late 80's the 'black plaque' had well and truly taken hold. At the time it seemed more attractive than used 80's push-button amps. In fairness that black Aiwa amp is still going strong!
I bought a Pioneer SX-434. The problem is I couldn't stop there! It was so nice I had to have more! A JVC R-S7, Pioneer SA-7800, Sansui AU-101. Then I needed a turntable with wood to match, my old Pioneer PL-430 was never 100%! So I got a Pioneer PL-510 and more recently a Rotel RP-1500, which isn't working. I guess buying vintage gear can be a bit of a lottery.
I'm not knowledgeable enough on hifi equipment to help anyone out, but thankfully there are plenty of forum members that are. That's why I joined.
If there's anyone else from Ireland here, particularly any vintage audio technicians!, let me know.
cheers
