I have been lurking here for some time, but only recently joined. Just made my first post in the general area, then noticed that there is an intro forum. It appears I'm starting out slightly backwards, as usual.

Anyway... I'm a mostly retired analytical chemist w/ interests in astronomy, music, audio & science fiction. Old as dirt, stuck back in the '70s. Running three receivers: Sansui 4000, Yamaha CR-1000, Sansui 350A (first two bought new way back then.) My taste in music is eclectic & unpredictable--classical, oldies (50's & 60's), show tunes, jazz, some pop, world music, even a trip back in time w/ Ska Cubano.

After moving back to NYS from the Philly area, I found that our 1952 vintage Capecod style home (w/ sunroom or familyroom addition) didn't accommodate my RTR280 DR speakers. I farmed them out to our daughter & son-in-law (for my sonic enjoyment when visiting the grandkids) and began a search for new speakers. Had a pair of Visonc David 602 w/ sub in one system on the Sansui 4000. Picked up a pair of Polk RTi6 and a PSW10 to use on the Yamaha for the time being.

Long story short: I found the speakers I really wanted to buy- Totem Hawk- but by then a new roof & other major expenses prevented me from buying.

After seeing the review of the Merrill Zigmahornets on Six-Moons, I researched single driver speakers. Just completed building a pair of Metronomes w/ Fostex FE108 E(sigma) drivers. (You can see my thread on this in the DIYaudio forum under Full Range.) Lots of fun & very rewarding!

Glad to be here & thanks for providing a wonderful forum!

Cheers, Jim

Many thanks for the warm welcome!

I'm located north of Schenectady, sort of semi-rural area.

Hope I can meet some of you folks at an AKFest. (Now that I have joined, I assume I am eligible to attend!) :music:

Cheers, Jim

Not a Philly native. We were in the Rochester, NY area for many years, then to Albany from 1989-1992. (My wife is a UCC minister, so we have moved around a bit.) Then to Bensalem, PA until 2000, when we came back to upstate NY. I no longer travel around doing consulting in infrared spectroscopy, instead, my wife, now a regional conference minister, travels as her territory includes a good chunk of the upstate region.

Cheers, Jim

SciFi dude! This place can be an episode of The Twilight Zone, which is what makes it so much fun and enjoyable!
