Hi all! I’m RC and I hail from Minnesota.
I thought that I would take a minute to introduce myself.
My audio journey brought me here in ’03 of ’05. I discovered AK while doing some research on something audio but I cannot remember what it was exactly.
I grew up listening to my uncles tube kit that he gave me. It consisted of a integrated amplifier and a Garrard turntable. Many of my friends had “modern” solid state gear that I thought was cool but I had to get by with my antique tube gear. At the time, I thought that they were the luck ones but in looking back, maybe I was.
I went solid state in the late 70’s and remained that way until the very early 90’s when I got back into tubes. From that point on, using tube amplification and high efficiency horn speakers is for the most part, where I get the most musical enjoyment.
When I first discovered AK, I was on a quest for the best sounding gear on a budget. Being married with two kids, I figured that my days of big buck equipment and speakers were over (at least in the near future). AK has helped me put together systems that I believe compete without embarrassment, with new spendy systems. I have discovered the world of the overachieving vintage tube amplifier and preamps along with the ability to DIY my own speaker systems. I have nothing against new, but sometimes the price of admission is too great. Actually, I find myself enjoying the music much more now then I did when I had too much money tied up in them.
Currently, my main set-up consists of restored tube amps and a modern passive preamplifier. Modern digital, vintage tuner, vintage turntable and DIY active x-overed speakers. Horns of course.
AK is all about good people, good music and the equipment to get you there.
By the way, pay no attention to my signature line, It’s really just an inside joke between friends.
