Hi. I buy up the good cheap gear and records from garage sales and thrift stores so you don't have to. :D Then I turn my friends on to the many joys of audio, and the cycle continues. Wondering where that Pioneer SX-626 went?
I'm a student at the University of Michigan, which puts me at a younger age than many of the people here. My audio quest started this summer, when I grew dissatisfied with headphones. I wanted some proper speakers - the headphones made my ears hurt after a while. Not physically, really - I just grew tired of listening. I learned along the way that this was due to compression in mastering, but the quest for stereo gear did not die. If anything, it intensified: I started hunting for vinyl and a turntable to play it on. Now, two sets of speakers, two turntables, a Luxman integrated amp and some sixty records later, I'm a full-blown stereo nutjob. The people living next door (and above, and below) in the dorm are going to hate me.
All I can say is that I've wound up spending more money than I thought I would, but it's been totally worth it. I've gotten great deals on everything (but with my crap job, there are few other options).
Where does the name come from? Well, I'm not from the Middle East or anywhere thereabouts. I pulled it out of Moby-Dick - Fedallah is one of Melville's characters. Interesting bloke.
Anyway, that's the intro. It was never done properly when I arrived here on AK's doorstep.
Main:
Luxman LV-117 integrated
Technics SL-3300 turntable (needs new cartridge, methinks)
Celestion 11
Secondary
JVC R-S33
Dynaco A-10
When not spinning vinyl the primary source is a Mac laptop. It works out alright.
