Born in CT … moved to Dallas at the age of 1 … been here ever since (except for one yr. in Bethesda, MD … and college) … attended Vanderbilt … graduated from UT (the longhorn version) … married for 10 years (no kids) … divorced for 10+ … retired from Commercial Real Estate several years ago … turn 60 in Jan. … live with 2 females (Gracie and Abby … my cats).

Been a collector (some say accumulator) most of my life … comics and baseball cards as a kid … coins and stamps later on … records for 40 some odd years … vintage stereo gear the last 5 or so years.

Chip is my real name (actually a nick name … but the only one that I use … except on legal documents) … HP is an abbreviation of town where I live … a fellow AK‘er thought the HP might stand for Highway Patrol.

Love music :music: … mostly ‘50s and ‘60s … but all genres (except classical … I don’t dislike it … but it’s not something that I listened to) … 4,000+ records and 1,000+ CDs.

My interest in vintage stereo gear has evolved from my record collecting hobby … have owned a Pioneer SX 727 since new in the ‘70s (from Pacific Stereo IIRC … probably for $200+ … when $200 would actually buy something) … the SX 727 has served me well over the years … still have the Fisher XP-7s speakers that were purchased with the SX 727 but they were relegated to corner several years ago.

Have been fortunate to pick up some nice vintage stereo gear … much of it by using the knowledge that I have acquired here … this is a great place. :thmbsp:

My internal hypothesis, was that HP might've stood for Hewlett-Packard. Given the Texas location, that also would have been logical... :scratch2:

Besides- what tech geek DOESN'T think Hewlett-Packard when they see the abbreviation HP? :nerd:

Gordon.

Hi Chip. We're close to getting that "Critical Mass" we need for a DFW get-together/speaker swap. :)

BTW: For those of who don't know, if you research "Highland Park, Texas" on the FBI crime statistics site, you'll find it has one of the highest crime rates in the nations (dollar value of crime committed by residents).

;)

Hi pm,

I didn't realize until recently that you were in the D/FW area (somehow, I got the impression that you were down in Austin) ... I have several pairs of extra speakers (unfortunately ... for you ... the unfinished birch Heresys ... aren't in that category ... yet :) ) ...

One of the nice things about living in HP ... is when I call the police ... they usually arrive before I hang up ... my alarm system (like most residents) is wired directly into the police department ...

That FBI stat is somewhat misleading (as can be the case with many stats ... I took 20 hrs of stat courses at UT ... which is also somewhat misleading ... cuz in the late '60s, stat courses at UT inclued computer courses) ... HP is a "small town" population wise ... and the stuff that gets stolen ... is expensive stuff ...

Chip,

Yeah, I go down to Austin/Kyle a lot to visit kids'n-grandkids (and stuff myself on BBQ).

HP Class of '66?

That FBI stat is on white-collar crime... where the criminals LIVE. ;)

In a world of petty thievery, it only takes one fund manager to loot a trust to make a town look bad.

Nope ... didn't live in HP ... during my formative years ... I grew up on the "wrong side of the tracks" (when the Dallas North Tollway was the Cotton Belt RR) ... would have gone to TJ ...
