This introductions thing ain't a bad idea. . . I'm learning about some of these hooligans, things that I never expected or knew.

In my case I came to AK after many discussions with several members with RetroStereo and Dowojo(never could get it right), the light man. . . This was in the spring of 76. . . more like 2002 IIRC. . . You know you can see what a members number is by letting your cursor focus over a member's name then reading their number in the tray at the bottom of the screen. . .

As far as who I am is concerned. Well I'm basically a 62 year old who has always loved the gear more than the music. Actually that ain't true. I love the music but I'm crazy about equipment.

Much of what we are crazy about I either owned new or knew someone who either sold it or owned it too. As we know there was lots of gear around then but not money enough to own everything we wanted or thought we wanted.

Around the mid 70s I started combining 'video' with my sound systems although very primitive with music still being number one. As time went by and Dolby Surround came along I bought into it along with it's offspring ProLogic, 5.1, 7.1 etc. etc.

In those days my primary 'Big System' was separates of course. I had my Marantz, Rotel, Anthem, Acurus periods until 2002 when 7.1 came along as did AK. Costs were sky high for separates so it was then when I split off music into 2 channel stereo and started using HT receivers for 7.1. My first HT receiver a Pioneer Elite VSX45TX started a journey that I'm still on today with receivers for HT.

Now for stereo. . . I discovered that there was tons of vintage gear out there for pennies most of which I drooled over back then but couldn't afford at the time. I started buying all the Pioneer receivers I could find that were SX-850/950/980/1050 and 1250. In a two or three year period and over 300 of them Pioneer receivers later, mostly 850s and 1050s I got kinda burnt out on Pioneer receivers.

After sinking about a grand into a legendary SX1010 then selling it like a fool plus other ventures into refurbished vintage gear I got tired of that too.

Today I have cut down on buying and selling everything in sight and concentrate on a few things I'm interested in like my new Klipsch La Scala loudspeakers. . . Nowadays it is one thing at a time plus occasionally a rare find that nobody can turn down.

I mean it is fun right?? One constant has been AK. . . I've met many new and what I consider life long friends as well. I've learned things that I thought I already knew only bigger and in more detail. I've discovered items that I always thought I hated but because of AK's diverse background I found out that some of this stuff I like too. . .

It is this diverse nature that makes AK stand out from the crowd. This is what eats your lunch, makes your hair grow, pisses you off and delights you all at the same time. Personally I wouldn't have it any other way.

Give her a chance you might learn something. . . Hell you might teach somebody something too. . .

YeeeeeHaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!

I like the way gy just tells it like it is. You never have to wonder what he's saying or where you stand with him. My kinda "guy" :thmbsp: (pun intended).

Whew. . . Lots of writing. . . Still it only scratches the surface which I am quite sure everyone else has the same complaint. . .

BTW. . . That is me (LOL) in my avatar. . . taken in 1875. A picture of an 1875 cowboy (well equipped) taken in 1875 near Dodge City.

Guy sees things pretty straight, IMO. Well, this latest venture into speakers starting in K, notwithstanding.

When you get old like me and your hearing goes south you'll see just how great Horn type PA speakers can sound . . .

OOPS. . . The cat's out now. . .

It is kinda funny with only a name tag, some sort of avatar and a few written words to go by what preconceived notions you can get about members that you do not know from Adam's house-cat.

As time goes by and you see the same names over and over some more often than others it gets curiouser and curiouser who's behind the keyboard.

I've meet a few members in person, talked to a few more on the phone and had off site correspondence with others via email or personal messages.

Without exception I've liked everyone I've met. Occasionally with as many highly intelligent opinionated folks as we have here you are at some point find yourself crosswise with one of them. You may not even realize it and could be the farthest thing from your mind. this stuff can fester over time and cause trouble.

This has happened to me. Best way to handle it is through private messages not in open forums where pride gets in the way. Without exception these things are misunderstandings that are easily fixed once the two of you get together.

It amazes me with so many diverse opinions from strong minded people that this is not a regular occurance. I still say it is those differences that make AK what it is today. I have sure changed my mind on several occasions just from seriously listening to another point of view different from my own.

Howdy, partna'! - (at least I think that's the standard greeting for a well dressed cowboy)

Klipsch La Scalas and some space to crank 'em up....man, that sounds like fun! Turn 'em up...I think I can almost hear 'em playing now. :music:

Partna' is just fine by me. . . I think its Partner or Pardner. . .

If you are within 3 states and you listen real hard you might faintly hear some ZZ Top or other rock and roll classics. . . They do go loud quickly. One of the guys at work said "And you can still hear the tinkley sounds even that loud"

He bout said it all. . .

My thinking is those 19s are doing just fine. . . Might be an awesome thing stacked. . .LOL. . . La Scala/Model 19 stacked. . .

My 85 year old neighbor still asks where all the explosions are comming from. . .

I don't have the guts to tell him. . .

Now that's a combo that's probably good for 4 states!
