I am not the longest one here but I have been around AK awhile. Learned about AK from another site that I hung on alot. Haven't been there in ages. Forgot my pass word and never went back. Everything I need is right here.

Been messing with audio since age 11. My parents were into music. Lots of classical. Went to the "Campus School" at SUNY New Paltz. They had a music dept and picked up more on the classical side. We grew up listening to WABC. My early goals were to improve its signal and sound. Anything in our house that made music was taken apart and not always back togather. I was lucky my parents looked at my tinkering as a learning tool. Started in 1961.

My first things were parts of stuff from the dump. It was on our street. Dad gave an Eico 20 watt amp when he got a stereo GE console. I used an RCA amp out of a trash 45 player for the second channel. Put a $2.95 stereo tone arm on a Philco turntable. Crystal cart. Crude but it worked.

Got a Fisher 400 when Lafeyette closed them ouit in 1967. Asked my Dad. He said will talk about it. That did not mean "buy it" He did let me keep it. Worked at a local TV shop to pay for it. Drove the owner crazy. "I have no jobs!" Hire me anyway. He did. $2 an hour and all the junk I could bring home. Great Deal for me! Bought a new Dual 1010S with a Shure M7D? cart. Switched to a Shure M44. Still use that model cart. Kids at school said Sam was cheap. You cant put a price on what I learned from that man. Today I am retail and he taught me how to deal with customers. Everytime I fix something I thank Sam. A lot of what I know came from his shop.

In the 70's I went off to college. Never really liked it. Would have worked for Sam had I know he wanted to put me through electronics school. Went to my Dad not me. Still like working on stuff over my job. Anyway I got started on Pioneer stuff. Went to college in Hays KS. Tough on NY kids. No decent Radio stations. And I dont do Cowboy music. Sorry follks. Saw a cool Pioneer turntable. Went to work in a family owned Radio Shack to pay for my Master Degree fixing stuff. Got hooked on Pioneer receivers,Teac RTR and cassettes, Marantz and JBL speakers.

Over the years its funny how you go back to certain brand you liked. There are loads of good things out there. In the late 1990's after being sucked into CD's and mediocre systems, I started getting the stuff I had or sold in the 70's. Never got out of LPs. Lets say they took a nap for 10 years. Living alone I started putting a 2nd system for my bedroom. Dubbed the worlds largest clock radio. Was given a Pioneer QX 949--free! Tied it to a pr of Dynaco A25's. Next came a pr of JBL L100's After all that Pioneer was a four channel. The JBLs on stands at the foot of the bed and the Dynaco's on nightstands at the head of the bed. Got rid of a Gemini direct drive--yech. Yeah it looked cool. Damned DJ table that looked cool. Piece of s***. Got a Dual 1229 in 1999. Cds started sounding off. Got a Pioneer QX 8000 Quad reciever. Not that popular but it blew the newer 949 away. Still have this set. Moved in with Marilyn it went to the LR. Tied a nice Panasonic HD TV to it. Dont play a lot of CDs.

Living here has given me a place to work on stuff. Got tiried of the diningroom table. Its nice to have a shop. My little Pioneer QX4000 got a little tired as my test receiver. Got the Pioneer SX 850 bug--again. Fourth one. Tied to a pr of ratty but working well JBL L100's Dual 1009,two TEAC reel to reels--1230 and a 2300,Teac 450 cassette, and Proton cheapie DVD for CD and DVD duties tied to a 5 in RCA monitor. Love the shop system. Room to fix and test stuff. AK has lots of cool folks here that give a wealth of knowledge on fixing stuff. I have started repairing things agaiin.

Anyway music and audio is a big part of my life and those who are here. Thanks to Grumpy, all administrators, and guys like Echowars and VintageTX and many more I have learned a lot. This post says a lot about who I am. Its one of the best things going. Hope all the newbies get as much as I have. If you like what you see subscribe!!! Only $25 and beats magazines. Hey Eric
Nice introduction and bio, much of what you describe sounds very familiar. Lots of old philco and crosley parts left over from some of my "projects" in the late 50's early 60's. My goals weren't quite as lofty. In northern NY, we had no local radio (and absolutely no tv) coverage of Yankee games up here, so I needed something that would pick up the NYC Am stations, other than my fathers old buick tube car radio.
Enjoy Jim
