I tend to be misanthropic so I am usually just lurking here. I do, however, have a strong belief that "what goes around, comes around" so I contribute to threads when I think I have something relevant to add and when I can offer some help to my fellow audioholics. I tend to be laconic in my speech, so please take no offense with my posts. I am not consistant in following threads so I may post once and never be heard from in that thread again. I really dig the overall mood of the forum and the way everyone is willing to share their knowledge and experiences with the group. My hats off to the moderators for keeping the course.
I am a self-taught electronics technician. While working for Radio Shack #3808 in the early 70's I read every electronics book in the local library, all of the course books from the local junior college, and a DeVry correspondence course of a friend. Then I managed and was lead technician at the local service center for Olson Electronics for nearly four years. When I saw their end coming I got my First Class Radiotelephone license and went to work in Telecommunications. Audio equipment is my love but Telecommunications pays the bills. I have been collecting audio equipment since the late 60's. I buy vintage stuff to feed my collecting habit as the cost of constantly upgrading my main system would strain the budget, and my marriage. I also enjoy bringing a dead piece of gear back to life.
I have bought and sold various collections of equipment from AR, KLH, Advent, & Dynaco. My current jones is Marantz receivers and Large Advent speakers. The collection lines the wall of my man cave. I need to build some shelving to hold all of this suff someday.
My muscial tastes run the gamut from Beethoven to Zappa. No Country Music and little Jazz. I think Zappa was a musical genius, Eric Clapton is GOD, and Ozzy is not the devil.
