"I don't have anything to contribute."
We have a lot of skilled, well-informed members. It's actually one of the reasons many people come here - to pick their brains. And it's easy to feel intimidated by that. There are other ways you can contribute; Beyond being a "knowledge base", AK needs members who are enthusiastic about audio, who have different interests in equipment and brands, and who can bring new ideas and experiences to the forum.

Been lurking for a bit. I love the format of this board. I tried to join somewhere else, appropriately titled "Asylum" and couldn't even figure out how to reply to a post here.
I'm a noob, don't know jack about audio, and have a bunch of entry level crap, and very little disposable income to use for collecting. But I have a lot of dreams.... :)
Basically, I came here to learn. So, teach me please, and thank you.
(leaves thread to write "ozmoid" down in "who to suck up to".txt file.) lol...

There's a sticky right here in the Introductions Forum titled "Helpful Threads... (http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=151854)"
You'll find links to lots of basic info, including some guides to posting images and using the AK Gallery.
Lurk -> Join -> Become a Subscriber.
It's evolutionary. :D

Hello, my name is **** and I'm an audioholic. My disease was under control for a number of years and then it reappeared just recently. I was bored this past summer and decided I needed something to do when I found a website devoted to cheap audio finds. The bargain-hunter in me was aroused and I began lurking on ebay. Then I discovered craigslist and it was on.
My first day out I went to a yard/garage sale, 2 church sales and one private seller at home. Among other things, I brought home a 400CD changer, a home theater system w/receiver and sub, a CD player, 2 pairs of mini speakers and 7(!) sets of adjustable speakers stands. Plus 2 Tivo units, a 5" TV and a mini-sub. All for about $130.
I stopped at one garage sale as it was closing up and took home another mini-subwoofer and 7(!) working VCRs, ALL FOR FREE!!
In addition, for not a lot of money but way too much time, I have accumulated the following:8 receivers, 2 tuners, 2 integrated amps, 1 power amp, a component switching network, a Nak cassette deck, a DVD player, a DVD changer, a CD changer, 2 CD players, 2 phono cartridges, 2 center channel speakers, 2 12" powered subs, 2 more pairs of speaker stands and over 20 matched pairs of speakers.
I told myself I was buying most of it to resell, but have resold NONE OF IT. I have 2 systems hooked up in my living room(with 4 pairs of speakers) and a third is on the way. A surround system is in the works in the family room, a system is in my home office and another(an old rack system) is in the master bedroom. Eventually, the other 2 bedrooms with have their own sound, and I will probably have one in the garage.
And I'm still looking around. I tell myself I'm monitoring ebay "just to check prices" and still look through craigslist. I have stayed away from garage sales for now and considering going to auctions. My new acquaintances include an acoustic engineer and speaker builder: a former audio store employee who specializes in phono cartridges:3 guys who buy liquidation lots: and my favorite, a retired Marine who buys, sells and collects more audio gear than I have ever seen. He can barely moved around his apartment for all of the gear and he does repairs-in his kitchen! His friend, who "once had a finished basement full of gear", has 2 EE technicians sharing his house.
I don't want to work anymore, I just want to collect gear and listen to it.
