Much like Mr. Ed, I normally don't speak if I don't have nothin' to say. But it seems mostly what I do around here is scream for help.
Started off with a Columbia Masterworks stereo which my parents got me in junior high, and it served me fairly well until the University of Minnesota, when I started hanging around Sound of Music and Schaak Electronics in Dinkytown. Saved up enough for a used Marantz 2215 (which I still have and use) and some kit-built speakers from Acme Electronics, where a friend of mine worked. And so it began.
Audio was my first money-down-a-bottomless-hole hobby, followed by photography, guitars, computers and home ownership. Now I've cycled back around to stereo equipment, to the consternation of my long-suffering beloved lifemate. Her patience rivals that of Job, usually.
Been working for the same company in different positions since I graduated in 1980. Right now I'm a help desk nerd helping people with their computer issues, so one of the hobbies paid off.
Go to a little Lutheran church most Sundays, where I thank my Maker that I have all the gifts I've been given. Like a wife, two wonderful stepdaughters, a son, and five of the most handsome and intelligent stepgrandchildren on the planet.
Of course, they all think I'm incredibly old, but I prefer to think of it as:
“PoppaSteve, serving the Twin Cities for half a century!”
This place is great, and I have learned a great deal from all of you. I'm gonna stop now, before I tear up.
