Much like Mr. Ed, I normally don't speak if I don't have nothin' to say. But it seems mostly what I do around here is scream for help.

Started off with a Columbia Masterworks stereo which my parents got me in junior high, and it served me fairly well until the University of Minnesota, when I started hanging around Sound of Music and Schaak Electronics in Dinkytown. Saved up enough for a used Marantz 2215 (which I still have and use) and some kit-built speakers from Acme Electronics, where a friend of mine worked. And so it began.

Audio was my first money-down-a-bottomless-hole hobby, followed by photography, guitars, computers and home ownership. Now I've cycled back around to stereo equipment, to the consternation of my long-suffering beloved lifemate. Her patience rivals that of Job, usually.

Been working for the same company in different positions since I graduated in 1980. Right now I'm a help desk nerd helping people with their computer issues, so one of the hobbies paid off.

Go to a little Lutheran church most Sundays, where I thank my Maker that I have all the gifts I've been given. Like a wife, two wonderful stepdaughters, a son, and five of the most handsome and intelligent stepgrandchildren on the planet.

Of course, they all think I'm incredibly old, but I prefer to think of it as:

“PoppaSteve, serving the Twin Cities for half a century!”

This place is great, and I have learned a great deal from all of you. I'm gonna stop now, before I tear up.

Thanks for the into, Steve. :music: <EDIT: Forgot to add "Nice avatar!"> ...my long-suffering beloved lifemate. Her patience rivals that of Job, usually.
You're a lucky man. :thmbsp:

You need to get a boat to attain the final level of "money-down-a-hole."

Great intro!

Glad you're here!

Actually, my wife would love to have a boat. Neither she nor I are the fishing type, but she likes to just sit out on the water. She hasn't convinced my yet, though; I'm perfectly happy living vicariously watching other people in their boats.

Then there's the almost literal money-down-a-hole hobby--a swimming pool! She'd like one of those, too!

By the way, thanks, everybody for the kind comments. It's no wonder I spend a lot my online time here.

Welcome Steve, and you have that nice big lake close by if you do get a boat.

We had a pool at one of the homes we owned, and I can tell you that pools not only cost $$$ to maintain, they also eat up your time working on them! If you aren't skimming the crud out, then you're vacuuming or adding expensive chemicals. The good part was that our then teenage daught was home in the pool most of the time (with her friends) so she wasn't out getting into trouble. So maybe it was a good investment after all.:scratch2:

And, Oh ya--good to meet ya!

Cheers, Jim
