Greetings to one and all.

Since hearing a friend's dad's stereo in 1974 (10th grade, you do the math) I've been hooked. There's nothing like a nice, heavy, vintage receiver or amp with knobs and dials. HT is for the birds.

I've been buying and selling audio equipment for more than thirty years. I acquire a system I'm finally happy with and tend to keep it awhile. That is the case with the current basement system:

NAD 1155 Pre
Perreaux SM 3 Pre used as a phono pre (yeah, I'm nuts)
Sony PS-X7 tt with Grado cart
Cambridge Audio 540C CDP
Sony 4950, Sansui TU-717, Yammy CT-1020 Tuners
Yamaha MX-600U amp
ADS L-1230 monitors

The family room system is a little tamer and has an acceptable WAF (wife appreciation factor):

Yammy CR-1020 receiver
Kenwood DP-7010 CDP
Ohm Walsh IIs

I basically learned of AK when I met Rob (merrylander) after reading his "about me" on eBay. One thing you're going to need if you get into this hobby is a good electronics tech and I'm priveleged indeed to be less than an hour away from Rob. He's the only face (so far) I can attach to a name at AK, but with 2 and 8 year old sons, attending a fest would be difficult. Much as I'd love to. I feel as if I know lots of other folks here, though.

Other than audio, I love tennis, sailing, frisbee and beaches. Oh and music, go figure. When the nest is empty we'll probably get a place on the ocean, if not sooner.

I also recently graduated from college at the ripe old age of 49 (for those who didn't care to do the math) and am trying to get a job with NSA. If that by chance does not work out, I'd like to go to grad school - but my wife has other ideas :-)

Cheers to my buddies here and a big welcome to all newcomers. Stick around and make yourself at home.

Hi Bordeno! I share the audio affliction and like sailing too. I like a little go-fast thrill so I'm into trimarans. Hang around, there are lots of interesting folks around these parts.

Hi Bordeno,

Good to have had you around! A place by the ocean would be very sweet!

But admitting that you're an audioholic is probably not a good thing. Those guys at NSA have ways of finding out! :D

Cheers,
Carl

They know all the bad stuff and don't seem to mind....the background check is ongoing - been two months since I spent the day at NSA....hopefully I'll get the job, then I won't have to look for another one.

Oh crap, the NSA is probably monitoring AK. I have to delete all my incriminating evidence...

Rick,
Good luck and hope you get the job. Tell them I was only kidding!

Hi Rich, just remembered that I used to work for the guy who was head honcho at spook city at one time, but he's probably not still alive,
