Rather than post my introduction last week when this forum began I decided to wait until today...August 7th is my third anniversary as a member of AK.
My teenage sons had pushed me to get the vintage HK system my wife & I bought in the 1970's up and running. They wanted to play the LP's they had been buying while going with me to the many flea markets and antique shows we attend. It didn't take long to see one system wasn't going to be enough and I wanted to get them each their own vintage system.
I came to AK looking to learn what might be available and how I could find the components for a system for them. That accomplished, I hung around as I my interest in different kinds of music was growing as a result of AK conversations and forums. We have become avid record collectors now.
I have stayed because of the people here. None better. Always willing to share their knowledge and give their support.
The highlight of my time with AK has been to help host the Southern AK Fest here in Atlanta last fall. It presented me with the opportunity to meet a number of AK'ers in person...and it was a treat. So much so the 2nd annual Southern Fest is planned for this October (see the Events & Happenings forum).
My advice to newcomers is make it to the national meet in Detroit or one of the regional gatherings held around the country. Doesn't get any better than meeting these folks in person.
BTW, I am an antique dealer. I specialize in selling old (pre 1920) country store, advertising, soda fountain, drug store, saloon and barber shop items. Being self employed in a one man operation has its advantages: no commute, no meetings, no boss, no money. But I love it anyway.
