I was looking at buying a new receiver that would be used with the PS3. i wanted HDMI switching, 8 channel PCM through hdmi, (having the ability to decode the new surround sound modes is a added bonus), and good clean sound. I have Paradigm Titans and paradigm center, suround and subwoofer. The paradigm are pretty reveling speakers and im somewhat of an audiophile, but mostly a stereophile. I have a seperate setup for my stero needs, so as long as the surrond modes work great, and sound great, this is probably the receiver Ill buy.

I personally dont care for the newer Onkyo's. I am a fan of Onkyo too. cool products but liked the old designs better. still they put out a quality product for the price compared to others. usually you get more from them.
I own an older TX-DS494 and to this day is my fav surround receiver. entry level but has plenty of quality and power.
I stepped up to the 602 a while back and I dont like it. it sounds good but I dont like all the menus, I prefer all the button selectors on the front like the 494. the build quality has gone down too.
I bought a TX-SR504, only because I had alot of Onkyo points and got it for $100 shipped from Onkyo. although I still prefer the 494 too over this one. it made it easier to like being only $100. :)
dont spend alot. infact Onkyo sells refurbs with 1 year warranty. a nice way to go. I got my 602 as a refurb and never had an issue with it and its been pushed and used alot.
I also have a paradigm setup, kind of. Onkyo seems to match good with it. but think a HK would sound better with paradigm. I own Monitor 7's, CC-370, Sapphire SS surrounds and a SVS 25_31PC+.

I've got a 502 or 503, can't recall which one, and like it. I use it almost strictly for HT use, driving a big center channel, a CSW sub, Minimus 7s as surrounds, and DCM CX-27s as fronts.
So far, so good in my book.
But for audio, I go back to 70's-early 90's vintage.

Just received it last week. So far, no real issues - I have the black version. I thought about the silver, but actually like the looks of the black version better. So far:
Pros:
2 HDMI inputs
1 HDMI output
I am running my High Def cable box & HD DVD player to the receiver with the HDMI's & the one cable for audio/video is great. I have an all region DVD player hooked up to the receiver through the component cables/coax dig audio & one HDMI cable to my TV.
Audioaudyssy (sp?) automatic calibration - the receiver comes with a microphone that you hook up with the test tones to automatically set speaker delays, size, etc. It works very well.
Cons:
The user manual is crap.
It seems to run a lot hotter than my old HT receiver - POS Sony.
Hope this helps,
Dean

MY 602 and 503 both run hotter than my older unit. especially the 602. it gets pretty warm.

I would also like to add that I don't use my HT receivers for music playback, so I couldn't tell you what the 605 sounds like as a stereo music receiver. It sounds fine for 6.1 playback.

One big plus for the 605 is this:
Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD decoding
It actually decodes the new audio formats, through HDMI, instead of just being an HDMI pass through.
This is excellent, if you have an HD DVD or Blu ray player. Especially if you're using a ps3 for Blu ray, since the ps3 doesn't have the 7.1 analog outputs.
Enjoy! :)
