Hello everybody,
I'm a lucky owner of a Linn Genki cd player and I love this sound but I wish to know if buying an Ikemi is an amazing upgrading or not...
Did anyone listen and compare Genki and Ikemi ?
Many thanks and regards

yes I have heard the difference. it is definitely there, the ikemi grabs more of the notes, the leading edge, the body, and the decay. Some call it more detail, but to me the detail was there just as much with the genki, but the ikemi just seemed to resolve more of it. was it worth 2500 dollars more? thats an argument you have to decide. The audio law of diminishing returns. I assume you are buying it used? its a remarkable player but keep in mind some have said the unidisc sounds as good as the ikemi... and then there is the magik out now also. when I upgrade from my genki I think i will go with Mcintosh- either the 201 or perhaps the 871 ?? then again if i got an ikemi for a good deal i know i could enjoy it for years...:thmbsp:

Hello Exracer,
I'm very happy with my GenKi but I'm looking for a second player to use in my bed room :I tought I could use the Genki without a pre with my MAC MC 162 in this room and for my first gear (MAC C15+ MAC MC150+KLIPSCH CHORUS II)I could buy an upgraded player.
I love Linn cd players(I owned an amazing KARIK+NUMERIK I°SERIES a lot of time!!!)so my first choice could be an Ikemi, but I love MAC sound too so I'd like to listen at an MCD201:did you compare IKEMI and MCD201?What could you tell me about this comparison?
Many thanks and regards

have not compared these two at the same time. I would suspect the 201 would have the edge. Players only sound better and better with technology advances... dont forget the newer linn players if you like linn- look at the new Akurate (http://www.linn.co.uk/music_systems_akurate_cd)

Hello Exracer,
sure, the technology is very important for cd players.I like Linn but I don't know.....in Italy last retail prices were 3400EUR for the IKEMI ,1700EUR for the GENKI and 5400EUR for a MAC MCD 201 (I don't know why but in Italy MACS costs too much compared with USA prices!!!!)

Yes, a bottle of Irish whiskey is 20 euros in Ireland, and go to Spain and pay 5 euros for it... the world is a funny place. Might be cheaper to fly to the US and carry it back on the plane !! good luck !
