I was attempting to connect my friends Dish Network A/V out to her (outdated) DPL receiver.

I found that there was no set-top receiver. Instead, the company ran an A/V plus video RCA cable into her VCR. Apparently, the signal is transmitted via RF (?)

I couldn't get the signals into her receiver to work properly. There was a low level hum. Possibly due to the RF?

Thanks for any help or suggestions!

That setup sounds like composite video. There is a set top box somewhere. Those cables come from the set top box.

You do need the set top box.Connecting to anything elsr is wrong.

I did think that the set-up was wrong, and that it must be coming from a receiver (box) from somewhere in the house.

But why run an insanely long RCA cable? Wht would Dish just not install a set-top box in the living room, where the A/V receiver and TV is?

It's called an "F" connector. . . A simple quick and cheep way to run to the TV's channel 3 or 4

You can use the red/white/yellow RCA cables to your TV's 'video input rather than RF.

My advice is to read the owners manual for your application. There are many ways to skin a cat,

Oh, absolutely. I wanted to use the audio and video straight into the receiver, and bypass the TV altogether, using the receiver as the control center. (my friend has no clue about anything audio. If it sounds good to her, that's all that matters to her).

Plus, she didn't want to allow me the time to rig it up the way I wanted; She just wanted the new speakers to work, and when they didn't, she wanted me to connect the front channels to the rear speakers, because "well, that's louder" :sigh:

Hafta call Dish. I have DirecTV. Maybe the same difference, but I wanna know why they didn't just put a box in the living room:scratch2:
