Or "It Pays To Snoop Around"

Couple days ago, I was out scrounging the used vinyl stores and found a beat up box shoved underneath the homemade wooden 2x4 racks, buried under some pallet dollies, waaay in the back of this shop.

Surprise. It was some maxell tapes covered in dust. I asked the The shop owner about it and he said, well just take a couple (very nice guy) and check back in a couple days. Today he said, just take the box and I'll give you a real good price. Went to get the box and guess what - TWO boxes!

"Well, go ahead and take 'em, just leave me a couple".

Okie dokie, checked out with $28 of used vinyl and $9.99 for #27 tapes!

It's a lot of 60's and 70's plus a little new jazz from the 80's. Plus one or two 50's rock tapes with this cool letter someone wrote his friend explaining what was on the 50/60's tapes: Bill Haley, Chuck Berry, Gene Vincente, Buddy Knox, Roy Orbision, Conway Twitty, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee, Elvis, Eddie Cochran, Ronnie Hawkins on and on.

I have a lot of it already, but maybe the recordings are better than my 30 yr old vinyl, I dunno. Going to sort through them all this week-end. Holy crap.

Thanks to Mike in Tempe at Eastside Records. You're a hell of a guy.

That is too cool. From what I understand Maxell is some nice quality stuff.

Thanks!
Gets more interesting. Got the 50's/ 60's tape on now, (just Elvis so far) but it isn't the standard recordings. It's not demo cuts, but it's definitely different than what you normally hear. Reading the guy's letter and he's explaining kind of where he got them, like: "Roy Orbison. Both sides of his first Sun record from 1956. Ooby Dooby a real classic. Go Go Go was later recorded by other Sun artists..."

"Elvis Presely - His version of Blue Suede Shoes that was never a single. This was available only on LP form. Again, Scotty Moore. His guitar licks are still being used today..."

"Carl Perkins - This was a very rare alternate cut from 1956..."

and so forth...
