I just got done figuring out the jigsaw puzzle of taking off the Glass on the 2205. I was very pleasently suprised to find that none of the Pots were damage. They were all loose enough to fall off but they are all fine now. Heres the damage report

Face plate shot Ordered
Loose Pots Fixed
2 burn out bulbs Ordered
1 broken knob Orderd
1 bent Pot shaft Fixed

I was going to order my parts from my local Mac dealer but I really cant stand them. They are way snobby folks ! I took one of the fellow members here advice and called Audio classics and the glass was outta stock but they will have it ready fro shipping to me on friday. Here was the total for the parts orderd

Face plate 150.00
Knob 10.00
Bulbs 3 at 2.00 Each
-----------------------------
Total with shipping 175.00

The best part was the rest of the amp is awesome! the chrome just needed a dusting and alittle cleaning. It goona look sweet when I get done with the ole girl. Heres a nudie pic for ya.

That's one you really ought to keep!

Would be real hard for me to get rid of!! ....Nice stuff!

POWER!!

Hey Grumpy,
Got a line on a pair of Klipsch LaScala's. They would go real nice with the Mac!!

Man that amp with a set of LaScalla's - WOW !

That would be SWEET !

Come on Grump, let me know what it would take for you to be able to keep this? It really should be yours. You deserve a kick ass system more than most people I know. You should be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

That is one serious big iron amp you got your self there. Did any other manufacture of higher power amps ever use output transformers in a solid state design? You have a real nice investment there.

Wouldn't mind seeing more pictures of it before you get the restoration complete.

I Just put her back together till I get the new parts. Damn I hope I never have to do another Mac after this. Its not really hard but you have to slide this part under this part over this part and line up and the sets of screw holes. Not exactly up this hamfisted guys alley. When the new parts come in I will remove more of the covers and shoot some better nudie shots. I tell you what you get a real workout moving that 84 Lb beast around. Make me long for a nice lightweight Marantz:eek  I just caled Audio classics back to see if I could get a new Bezel for the Meters but they said no go. :( Looks like I might have to take their advice and have to repaint the gold/silver line on my old one.

I plan on keeping this one for myself no doubt. Otherwise I woulda just thown it on Ebay and been done with it. I just have to keep my wife from figuring out that I have 475.00 total in it :D I dont think I did to bad. Now I just have to get a nice Tuner and Preamp. Most of what I have in the house would not pair up nicely with mac. Guess I better start looking huh.

Grumpy the $475 can be reduced ideals listed below:

1. Bozaks buy, fix and sell.
2.G22000 if possible get amp; if not list as is on e-bay quick sale and Sansui literature separate auction.
3. Any large receivers lying around hint l'm easy ( at convincing to buy more). :D

Hi grumpy, :) Hey that Macintosh is one impressive looking beast, the construction quality of that looks top-notch! :)

What year is the amp manfacture?? Being in NZ we never got any good exotic gear over here..:( I gather is must be close to 100watts p/side? Very nice, very nice looking machine you've got there..:)

Cheers

WOW! 200W Well thats even better then. Not far short of the SX1280-185W p/side... awesome power! hehe ;) I'd hate to think of the damage that Mac/sx1280 could do to speakers if someone really abused them.. Something one does not want to think about.

Look for the C29 preamp and the MR78 tuner. These have the same cosmetics as the amp. The C28 and lower numbers and MR77 and lower numbers have the earlier styling. While the change is more evolutionalry than revolutionary, there is something about a matched Mc set. If not concerned look for a nice MX110 tube preamp/tuner for a killer system.

The go after those ML-4 speakers and the th MPI-4 scope.

Sansui is the only other brand that I know of that used output trannies in their solid state power amps, and I believe it was only in the BA-5000. McIntosh still uses OT's in their SS gear.
