View Full Version : One very expensive Ebay record album! bluesky 09-09-2007, 09:10 PM Check this out!! UGH. A record on Ebay, 1961 BILL EVANS Trio "Waltz for Debby" Riverside LP MINT. just sold for $1,125.00. I think I would just buy the CD!! Unbelievable. And there was 18 bids!! :screwy: :yikes: Mystic 09-09-2007, 09:45 PM Clean original copies of this LP have regularly brought $400-$600 for several years, but I don't think it ever reached this high. I have not checked out the auction you've cited, but was this an original and sealed copy, or just very (very very) clean? Oh, I guess I'll go have to go have a look in ebay. bluesky 09-09-2007, 10:22 PM The following is the write-up for the album. It was 'used' but apparently in really excellent shape. It just blows my mind that anyone would spend that much money for a record album!! It must be magic or something!! Ebay: This is an original 1961 stereo stock copy pressing of the jazz classic BILL EVANS TRIO, "Waltz for Debby" LP, 1961, Riverside Records, RS-9399 [S], (black labels). This album definately seems to be in excellent order. The black labeled vinyl looks new. Much of the original glossy sheen still intact. Definately collector quality. I would conservatively rate the overall vinyl condition NM-. The cover looks almost new. Nice clean boldness to tone of front and back cover print. Sturdy spine and seams. I would rate the overall cover condition NM-. Zeromancer 09-09-2007, 10:57 PM Don't forget about how much the White Album is worth or sells for. Andyman 09-09-2007, 11:12 PM Folks pay what they want to pay, and to at least 2 people this copy of that recording was worth it. For all we know, that's chump change to the buyer :dunno: clydeselsor 09-09-2007, 11:19 PM I have a copy! I bought a 100 count jazz record collection at an estate sale for $5.00 for the lot. All records are in mint condition. Maybe I should have it insured! luvvinvinyl 09-10-2007, 07:10 AM You probably have a few more gems in that 100-lot. I doubt that the Waltz for Debby LP would be the only quality piece in a collection of jazz. It might be time to invest in a guide. Arkay 09-10-2007, 07:22 AM Agreed, it might be worth checking guides and doing some research on what that pile of LPs is worth. Jazz is usually listened to by "musically serious " people, and rare, high-quality jazz recordings can be expensive. If this one was in that collection and they are all in near-mint condition from a collector, it would definitely be worth checking what else you have there. The value might surprise you. Of course, then you have to decide whether to keep them for your own enjoyment or sell them to get those Gemini 1 speakers or a new car or whatever else... :D And if you do keep them, you have to decide whether to play them or not, knowing that if you scratch them or wear them out, it could really cost you... piece-it pete 09-10-2007, 08:56 AM Maybe I should have it insured! Yes  . When I spoke to my agent about my gear and records he suggested that I get a rider, "Jewlery & Etc." or something similar, not expensive at all. Pete cfranz 09-10-2007, 09:53 AM Expensive?!? For Bill Evans??? Whatchu talking about Willis! :music: Perhaps now would be a good time to invest in one of those laser LP players. Starts pristine, stays pristine. Honestly... I've got several thousand albums in the basement (covered and catalogued) and one day I'm going to sell them and buy my own country. :thmbsp: bre's dad 09-18-2007, 03:08 PM Check this out!! UGH. PaulParrot 09-18-2007, 03:15 PM The Beatles item is of course valuable for its cover. I've never understood how anyone can stay awake during Bill Evans's noodling around. Well, well Paul you do not mince your words. I am one of those that like Bill, but I would not pay more than $50 for any LP and the top dollar has to be Sarah Vaughan or the Skatalites. I enjoy Bill Evans:he says a lot with little. piece-it pete 09-19-2007, 08:20 AM I believe I picked up several of these from Piece-It Pete a couple years back at the AKFest. D'oh! Pete cfranz 09-19-2007, 09:08 AM Well, I'll be darned. I've got that King Crimson album. Of course it's not mint. Probably rare because we're all stoned when we drop the needle. |
