I've got a version of Britney Spears' "...Baby One More Time" done by Ahmet and Dweezil Zappa. Also got "Staying Alive" by Dweezil and Ozzy Ozbourne.

John Cale's version of "The Streets of Laredo" is certainly interesting.

Richard Thompson's cover of Britney Spear's "Oops... I Did It Again" certainly goes places the original missed.

Johnny Cash's version of NiN's "Hurt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8bnNCqjCcw&mode=related&search=)" shouldn't be missed.

Yeah thats a good one! You have to love Cale's deadpan singing. Being a Velvets junkie I am surprised I had not heard this one.

The Flying Burrito Brothers do a swell cover of the Bee Gees' "To Love Somebody."

If I'm alone in my car, it can bring tears to my eyes (can't let people I know see me crying - not manly).

I don't know, I don't watch tv, I listen to music.
The song is off Jeff's "Grace" album.
Unfortunatly Jeff's career came to an early end when he drowned, I believe he was only 31 at the time.
If you don't have the "Grace" album, it's one you should get, it's outstanding and Jeff's vocal range is nothing short of amazing.

OK, one last John Cale cover...

No link, no recording, but I heard him do a cover of J.J. Cale's "Cocaine" on night in the '80s that might have scared a few folks straight.

John Cale didn't appreciate the request, but he was ready for it.

Actually, not to overun this thread with John Cale references, his version on Fragments for a Rainy Season is my definitive version.

His current live version is by far the weirdest of all. Not better. Just weird.

Tom's Diner/Walk on the Wild Side Cover/Remix

I can't remember who at the moment but it's a house remix melding of Tom's Diner (Suzanne Vega) and Walk on the Wild Side (Lou Reed). Very cool.

Toots and the Maytals do a reggae version of John Denver's Country Road. I know it seems like an odd concoction, but it works.

I saw the late Yellowman do that one live back in Champaign. Very cool.

Along those lines check out the soundtrack to "50 First Dates". It is reggae covers of popular 80's tunes. Even includes Ziggy Marley doing The Cars' "Drive". My fave is UB40 doing "Every Breath You Take". Well worth a listen if you like the reggae vibe.

Across the Universe/Beatles - Fiona Apple

Somewhere Over The Rainbow - Israel Kamakawiwo'ole

I actually prefer the Rufus Wainwright cover of Across the Universe from the I Am Sam soundtrack, which was overall a pretty stellar collection of Beatles covers imo

And there's a version of Israel Kamakawiwo'ole singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow and it goes into What a Wonderful World, and that song is just fantastic.

And I second Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah because i'm partial to Jeff Buckley and because I'm sick of hearing the other covers.

Oh and Ryan Adams' Wonderwall is a great interpretation, though I can't say I particularly like the original... Oasis is down in my books right now.

Sixpence None The Richer, I think mostly because of their singer's voice, has put out some great covers including Crowded House's Don't Dream it's Over, they also did a U2 cover somewhere...

oh and i like Stars' cover of The Smiths' This Charming Man, even though this is more of my Stars and Smiths love than the cover
