I've been using Last Stylus Cleaner, All Purpose Cleaner, and Power Cleaner with great results but have an unopened bottle of #2 Record Preservative.
Any experience with Last #2 as far as:
Should you be RCM'ing treated albums?
Does it dampen or change the sonics in any way?
I plan on using it mostly on brand new albums.
Thanks.

Don't know if this helps, or if it's too OT, but I've purchased some used LPs that sure appeared to have #2 on them.

My cousin the chemist analyzed Last #2 for me years ago. In fact it is not a preservative, it is a powerful, freon based cleaner. I suppose you could say it preserves the record by getting all the dirt out of the grooves. It worked great but now you can't get it anymore. It leaves no residue so you can feel free to use a cleaning machine on treated records.

Freon? That's interesting. Guess I'll just test it first on a "control group" of albums. As a cleaner, it seems kind of dumb then to waste it on brand new albums. Might as well plow the money into new blank reels & record.
Thanks pm & dr*

I just bought Last #2 about a month ago.
1) I've read this:
http://www.indiespinzone.com/other/recordcare.html
(but lately I'm skeptical of some things)
If it really changes vinyl at a molecular level, then I would think an RCM should have no effect. I have RCM'd a very few after I used Last #2, and beats me if I can tell what really happens.
2) I've noticed on some vinyl I treated, it did change the sonics, a little. My first reaction is that it did sort of "dampen", maybe not as "lively", but all around smoother and more pleasant to listen to. At a more drastic level, that's some of the things my tonearm fluid damper did. I cant honestly say if that is "taking away" something though.
Yea I've used it on albums I care about more since it's damn expensive, I also use the Last #5 which is said to go hand in hand with Last #2. Course I use Last #4 too for the stylus.
