Just read in the New York Times that 77 years old Sonny Rollins will return to Carnegie after 50 years! I did not realise that one of my favorite sax man was that old or was playing that long. Whoa hold on. I bought his LP "Way Out West" when I was very young and now I am an old fart. Sunday he was interviewed on NY one tv about the upcoming concert:he was all grey hairs like me. Sonny will be using his old piano less format; just drum and bass.
I take this opportunity to salute this great jazz musician and wish him the best.

David (dmax99) and I will be attending the October 13 performance at the Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts in Detroit. Can't wait.

Will you be attending that Carnegie gig, Reggaenaut?

Unfortunately no. I just knew about the concert recently(over the weekend I think). Even if I could get a ticket I have serious commitment for the time frame.

David ordered them directly from Ticketmaster via Music Hall's website. At least that's how I think he got them ----or was going to get them ----when I talked with him on the phone yesterday. I checked this morning and tickets were still available. In fact, I could've had main floor row T. I believe David got us row N but don't hold me to that. I'll be hearing from him soon. Here's a link to the events shedule. Just scroll down to the Sonny Rollins gig and that'll take you to Ticketmaster.

You can order them two for one if you go through the Music Hall website. I tried that this morning just for gits and shiggles and with fees and such it worked out to be only $35 per ticket for main floor seating. Hell, that's not bad and it may be your last chance to see this jazz legend.

I liked him best in the piano-less format. You should pick up a copy of Sonny Please, the album he released in 2006, to get a sense of where Sony's at musically in the present. Yep, Sonny's pretty much the last of the saxophone giants still living.

I will pick up a copy this week in Williamsburg NY(for sentimental reasons). This is the area in which he use to practise and derived the title of his album the "BRIDGE" (Williamsburg Bridge). There is an excellent record store in the area.
