View Full Version : Did you play a lot of golf this year?
clydeselsor 09-17-2007, 11:48 PM I have been playing golf since 1995 and really started working hard on my game about 5 years ago. Last year I finally got down to a single digit handicap. The last round that I played in 2006 was in late October and I shot a 2 over par 74. Not bad for a 45 year old fat-ass! This past winter I seriously injured my left foot and have not played all year until today. My foot is still bothering me (I have had 2 surgeries on it in the last 6 months) so I had to ride in a cart (I have always walked the course) and today I shot a 98! Now I feel like all of the work that I put into this stupid game has been waisted!
So anyway, only 1 round for me this year, last year I played 84 rounds!
Fisherdude 09-18-2007, 10:33 PM Well, Calc ain't exactly built like a swimmer, and he can play pretty well! He came up with one of my favorite quotes a while back: "I never work out...too dangerous. You can pull a muscle. You can't pull fat!".
Sorry to hear about your foot. You should be back to normal next summer, with any luck.
I'm probably going to be flirting with 80 or so rounds this year, but it doesn't seem to be helping. Started out like a house on fire with a 34 on the back in my second round of the year. By June I couldn't break 90. Been clawing my way back, slowly. My index is back under 10, but it's been painful.
Well, painful figuratively speaking...not like yours!

Wigwam Jones 09-18-2007, 10:55 PM If by "a lot" you mean went to a company 'best ball' golf game, shanked five shots in a row, got mad, had six boat drinks in half an hour, smashed up rented clubs and then drove my golf cart into the cement pond, then yes, I played a lot of golf this year.

Man, we got to tee it up sometime! Sounds like a round of golf with you would be a real gas!! I'll bring the brewskis!
KeninDC 09-19-2007, 09:28 AM I played some golf. Lately, I've preferred tennis.

So anyway, only 1 round for me this year, last year I played 84 rounds!Sorry to hear about your foot. I've played a half dozen times this year but had wanted to play more. Even bought new clubs. I'm hoping to play a lot more the next few years as I try and teach my five year old twins how to play the game. They'll be getting clubs from santa this year.

Wow, you played extremely well since taking up this great game! Sorry about your foot injury. Hope you heal fast. I'm in the same age and I always walked too. Even if my partner got a cart, I'd hoof it. Summer was perfect for golf this year in the NW. Tried to play every week. Did join in a few tourneys; never shot better than a 45 for nine. Well, since I am getting older, went and got fitted by the Ping rep a few weeks ago. I kinda knew, but he proved it. I had the wrong irons all along. I'm tall and used regular length shafts. Needed more upright. Was always hitting off the toe and going right. Still waiting for the new G10 irons to come in:yes:
JDaniel 09-20-2007, 05:36 AM I played more this year than any in the past decade. My boys are now old enough to play, so we've been out probably 20 times together, plus the occasional Sat/Sun round with guys from work.

ehoove 09-20-2007, 11:29 AM Twice a week since June on average, but still not very consistant. Was a consistant 12-13 HC but hurt my back 2 years ago. A full year off and now its 83 to 98 depending on the day. Very frustrating!!

Jim
clydeselsor 09-20-2007, 11:53 AM Oops, duplicate post.

Yeah, Calc, Stadler and Daly all look like they haven't missed many meals! Me too! I think that my 80 plus rounds per year days are over. Last year when I played so much, I kinda neglected work around the house that needed to be done. Rheumatoid arthritis is also a factor now as well. Next year I will probably ride a cart more often and maybe play approximately 40-50 rounds. Even when I don't break 100 I still enjoy playing!
Fisherdude 09-20-2007, 09:20 PM I hear ya about the work around the house. Believe it or not, that's one of the reasons I like living where there's an actual winter.
I can get some stuff done!
