View Full Version : Breadboard for tube amp R&D Rob 08-22-2002, 03:06 AM Check this post in Tube section. Rob http://www.audiokarma.org/forums//showthread.php?s=&postid=10488#post10488 WildWest 08-22-2002, 09:37 AM That's a helluva idea there Rob. I like the "quick change" approach to really A B test the differance. Keep posting about it and tell us your results with various configurations please. I am thinking about installing the conversion board from Ned at Triode Electronics in my PP Dynaco ST 70. But there is always the thoght in the back of my mind that I may want to do a whole different tube amp/amps altogether so why drop the money on it ya know? Rob 08-22-2002, 10:05 AM WW, Glad you approve. :) I'm actually going to build a full blown stereo circuit and then a separate stereo output stage switchable from a common stereo driver and phase splitters if appropriate, so it is gonna get pretty busy real fast on that board. IMO, mono listening tests won't suffice to evaluate an amp with the ears, at least not mine. Rob Rob 09-19-2002, 10:16 PM Well I finally got a chance to get working on my breadboard this week and have wired up one output stage to operational status with six 6080 tubes in parallel P-P class A. I coaxed 40 watts RMS out of it today with my developmental homemade toroidal output xfmer. I might end up with a 40 or 50 watt RMS design using 8 power tubes, 16 power tubes for stereo. Since the power supply is so huge It makes sense to build this first pair as monoblocks I think. Now I gotta find a way to get most of this work bench into a single chassis! :) Rob Rob 09-19-2002, 10:18 PM A six pack of 6080's operational on my breadboard. Rob Wardsweb 09-19-2002, 10:21 PM Wow! cool stuff. you get two of those in one chassis and your not just an electronics genius, your a magician. :D Hey, I'll take mono blocks  |
