I don't have an 881 but I have a Onkyo TX-4500MKII with the same issue. I can hear the sound in the background if I turn the volume way up. I'll be interested to hear about this one.

Does the tuning meter move? Check for power on the tuner board.
Dirty selector switch?
A couple of things to try.

Try for dead transistor (voltage regulator) on Power supply board...I think TR01 and or TR03 on F-2437...location 1C. I had a similar problem on a 771 noted here...

this one has 2sd313 in for tansistor 1 and 3 both of them read 47 volts on the colector nothing on the base or admitter

You say Emitters on both TR-01 / TR-03 are 0Volt.
If so,
TR-03 gets it's base-voltage only when there's some output (Emitter-voltage) of TR-01.
If the TR-01 circuit doesn't work, TR-03 will also not pass any voltage.
TR-01 needs Base-current to start conducting and that would come from R-02/R-03. The voltage is de-coupled with C-05/100uF-50V. I would suspect this cap to be defective (shorted).
If not, then you're left with 3 likely options: TR-01 defective or there's a dead short from TR-01 Emitter to ground or both.
TR-03 base is de-coupled with C-07/47uF-16V. That cap is parallel to ZD-01/13Vzener and if shorted, the output of TR-03 would certainly be 0Volt, but I think TR-01 output would still be >0 Volt
Will a Service-manual do you any good?
If so, PM me with your e-mail address for a free pdf-copy.
Kind regards,

You probably done this basic check, but check your wiring connectors, one at the back of the unit above the shaft of the selector switch, the other in front of the driver card. There is also a yellow and black (one or two) that solder on to the radio board from the bottom. It is slightly possible that one of those got pulled off.
BTW, does your unit have a faint 60 cycle hum? Both of mine do especially on FM.

I am in the process of recapping one of mine, changed all the caps on the power supply minus one, and now will do the 6 on the driver card. The sound did not improve as it was already good, but I still have the transformer hum, maybe completing the recap will cure it. The tuner on these things is really nice.
